WELCOME to the GATHERERS
Posted by DeepSouth on August 20, 2022 at 2:09 amHello and welcome to the Deep South Gatherers. If you are like us, FB and Instagram have become full of useless posts that mean nothing to us. On FREESTEADING, we hope to start conversations here that will help you with your homestead questions. We will be checking in a couple of times a day to answer questions and give updates on what we are doing. Enjoy the testing phase. Everyone INTRODUCE yourselves and get to know one another.

Hello kd texas. My maiden name is Sword, I almost never run across someone with that name and spelled that way. My family is from farther North.
-
Really! My husbands father was Cyral Sword and his father was Clifford Sword. Small world isn’t it?
-
My aunt worked on the family tree for a while. It stops at 1957, the year I was born. My fathers side came over from Ireland and settled in OH, KY, PA areas.

Thank you for mentioning this venue last night. I rarely socialize in FB anymore. Just post my YT updates, sometimes a memory, yet found there was nothing edifying there. I have too much real life living to do. 🙂
To have a place to be authentic is freeing!!

So grateful for this new platform! Yea FB and the likes have all pretty much become dumpster fires. Think people are scared to leave FB ( I told friends leaving and exchanged updated contact info before removing contacts.) Guess what- out of sight out of mind, hardly anyone spoke to me outside of that platform! They weren’t upset, just so used to that method of communication in my opinion- they just couldn’t ” old school it” even a little. It was disheartening but an eye opener. I felt the communication there devolved to just reposting videos, ” thoughts for the day”, and other useless stuff like vain smoochie-face cross-eyed selfies, nothing meaningful. And feeding that platform all your family photos with everything you’re doing thats so remarkable. Not sure if others had similar experience with people ” losing touch” with them when exiting that platform. Thinking before the whole social media craze, where most things were blog sites where people had actual conversations and could read- not everything was a video. I do love the videos of course! But just sayin. Anyhoo, here I am. I really hope all the homesteaders will make it over here, especially all the ones that do homesteading conferences too!

Hi Wanda and Danny!
I stumbled across your Youtube channel a couple of months ago. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge about gardening and life in general. I look forward learning more about how to care for our small garden. We’re already adding more growing space. 🙂
It’s great to see your success with sugar cane. Here in LA, there are fields and fields of it right around the corner from us!

Hi all,
This seems like a great place to ask the question have you planted a nectarine seed stright from the fruit into soil or have you split it open before hand? I’d really like to start growing my own fruit trees and wonder what your experiences have been.
Thank you for your responces.
-
Wehave started peaches by just placing the seed in a pot of soil. It takes years to get fruit. But it can be done with the right peach seeds. But never with a nectarine.
-
I would like to try that. Being in NH, I’m not sure the cold winter months would be good for it. But, it is worth trying.
-
I have or am able to make starts of hazelnut bushes. If anyone is interested just let me know.
-
-
Ohhh I saved nectarine seeds to. Thanks for letting me know!

I live in southern Ohio on the Ohio River. Just do a lot of backyard gardening, but we get a lot canned every year possible. So nice to see everyone here.
