I’m Claudine. I am homeschooling my 7th grader, almost 13. This is our first year. Her sister and brother are grown and out of college. They both went to public school. She is so lonely though. Thoughts.

I’m sorry I didn’t see this earlier. I would think you could preserve them in a salt brine like lemons. I got that info from Carolyn on the homesteading family YouTube channel. Maybe that will help if you get a great gift of a ton of limes again.

Maybe look into rocket mass heaters? They really intrigue me.

Comprehension is a hard thing to teach. When we read chapter books to our kindergartners we alway begin by asking them to go back in their brain and remember what happened yesterday. We usually read the magic treehouse books to them. We make a slideshow to go along with the book. It’s usually pictures of something new for them. For example: a pterodactyl, Tyrannosaurus rex and other pictures of new vocabulary words. Then we start at the beginning of the slide show and ask them what happened first and show that slide. We “walk down memory lane” with them until we reach the picture we ended on the last time we read. We typically read a couple chapters a day. All this to say, we also pre-read the story in order to have the slides ready for our read aloud time. Maybe for your child this isn’t necessary but it helps our little people so much. Maybe it’s a good place to start for you guys and then you can move into just talking about it after a book or two. The visuals really work with our little people.

For right now, I like seeing everything. Then I can see what I else is going on.

I’m the cement that holds this place together too. I do all the inside stuff and a good part of the outside stuff. I’m a teacher’s assistant. I get up at 0430 to be out the door by 0600. When I get home, I gather eggs and feed and water. I’m starting seeds and still getting the last of my Christmas decorations down (don’t judge 😳) I try to run the canner a couple days a week on things that I harvested and put into the freezer over the harvest season. I’m planning to move more to the homestead giving us and income and less from me being off farm. My husband is disabled and our daughter, the last child at home, is getting school done. It’s vary hard work. It’s also very rewarding. Keep going you can do this!! ❤️

I do the same.

I miss them thar rocks. In PA, I always found rocks when I needed them. In SC… just clay. Pouting…

Silver and gold are stores of wealth. The $20 gold piece that bought a tailor made suit in 1920 will still by that suit today.

I really like Lynette. She really knows her stuff and has taught me tons.

You are awesome!! I appreciate the insight.

Spring came early to SC, at least that’s what the elderberries are telling me. I went out last weekend to get cuttings and they were already leafing out! They are usually good and dormant until at least after Valentine’s Day. I could cut them and send the cuttings but I don’t know if they would survive if I sent them now. I think I’m going to try to get them to root and then send them out. It’s been a weird winter for sure.

I’m thinking $10 for three cuttings with two nodes for leading out and two nodes for rooting.

I cut mine too. Mine are rooted from wild stock. They produce well and the juice is fabulous. So… I don’t know the specific kind, just Sambucus nigra. 😁

They will be cuttings. I can’t ship plants. I will however ship rooting instructions with them.
