I get mine from the local Mennonite community feed store. You have to buy a stack of them but that way they only cost around 15 to 20 cents each. I always ask for cartons back but only a few people will return them. I have considered charging 50 cents more for a dozen eggs from people who never return their cartons.

If you are storing bulk quantities of nails especially for a long time it is good to put a little WD40 on them and toss it through them like mixing salad dressing into the greens in a salad. It will help preserve them to prevent rusting. It only takes a small amount.

I had a friend who had weasels do that to his chickens also. But they took the heads away with them to their den and left them all around the entrance hole he said. .
