I find sorting out books to be very hard and would have trouble doing so because they’re all sacred (especially in the times to come). All of the subjects of books mentioned before are important, but, if I really would have to sort them out, I would check on what I have double/triple +times and from there would take my favorite/most used. Some of the books we get/have are not as great in the end as we thought in the beginning. Start from there and see what’s left. 😉

What a great thread, thanks for it.
I’m not as versed in citing the Bible as any of you are, but I struggle with how much to prepare to still maintain the level of trust in our Lord to not lose my live in the end trying to preserve it, but I do feel like he has a purpose for me afterward in helping to rebuild. I had this strong urge to save seeds right from the beginning and by now I think I have enough for my neighborhood. I expect estranged family and friends to come for help and I will not turn them away, but how much can you give before it affects you? Will this then be the moment of not trying to preserve your life in order to keep it and to trust him to open a door in need and lead the way? Trying to walk in faith, listening to my heart while preparing as best as I can has become a balancing act.

Since my last comment, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this personal choice issue which in turns is also a trust issue. How much research on anything can/should or need we do on anything ? How much and what kind of leniency are we giving each company and their product to, in the end, satisfy us ? And how much can we ask a company to do before a product is put on the market ?
I’ve watched several test videos for water filters and they all have different results. Like Deep South already stated, they all filter, but in the end, it boils down to what you are looking for/what you want to have filtered out and . . . your budget.

I also set aside a good pair of boots and, yes, reading glasses in various magnifications from the dollar store, they’re cheep and can be used for barter .

So, okay, I’ve sat down tonight and done some research on the water filter issue and here’s what I found . Both, ProOne and Berkey filter systems were tested in the same Environtek Lab. Documents/test results, for a set of extensive test from both are available and they don’t look that much different neither are the procedures.
But Berkey, in addition was scrutinized by the Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures of California.
So, did I get suckered in by a quick emotional response to the video ?! 🙄 Guess I need to go back and watch all 4 (or 5?) videos if it is actually about more than the 3000gal claim.
I found a lot on both companies and in the end was a bit confused about the hype, but then Natural News was mentioned and guess what, Mike Adams did his own tests of several Water Filtration systems in 2014 and in his Conclusion he recommends only two gravity Filter Systems : Big Berkey and Zen Water Systems, ProOne was in third place. Did those filters change that much in the last 8 years ? I don’t know, but what I do know, I trust him probably more than any other testing site/report of a “Best “ list.

It is pretty sad when companies resort to such tactics. Last year I invested in a filtration system and bought a ProOne filtration system very similar to Berkey, but I did like their filters much better and it was slightly cheaper. The filters are made of ceramic with silver and the system is NSF certified. Nevertheless, this has stirred me up and i’m gonna do some more research still on my ProOne system. I gotta say, though, we also have one of their filters for the shower and my husband’s skin irritations have gotten much better since then which gives me hope that this system might be a good one.

Awesome, thanks guys.
Some time ago, I’ve seen a docu about the situation of farmers in SA, some had their cars and trailers ready to go with escape plans and were to meet up with friends, scary thought.

MemberOctober 17, 2022 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Re-canning what was already cannedThanks for responding. I can actually keep my Water Bath canner at or just slightly above the boiling point of 212F (per my thermometer) for quite some time and remember letting some boil for twice the recommended time. All the jars are still in perfect condition, none spoiled. I have used some jars before I knew about Botulism, but could there be a chance though ?

MemberOctober 15, 2022 at 3:56 pm in reply to: Re-canning what was already cannedThanks for your response, I haven’t had the time to sort out the jars yet or really decided what to do with them, but you have a valid point : “if it were just me”. I whish there would be some kind of way to test if the food is affected because I have to get rid of some good stuff. 😟 But then again, I may try to recan some soups where I used lots of ingredients like onions and garlic, though the beans and such will be history.

I’ve watched Rose red homestead before, but can’t remember anything on botulism, going back to check it out.
Thanks for the info !

MemberSeptember 17, 2022 at 10:12 pm in reply to: The Unwilling to Participate SpouseOh how funny, I can so picture you two and know it’s the same in our house . I’ll rearrange the dishes without saying anything anymore and don’t clean up his tools in the garage as it would be just the same for him. 😆 When it comes to the house and construction, this is my field of expertise being an architectural drafter by trade and remodeled/fixed our second home now and come from a farming family. My hubby on the other side, being in the medical field and having a super technical anything with wheels understanding, just can’t get to grips that I know more in certain fields. And there it is, the acceptance of defeat/lack of knowledge of either party for the other has to come from both sides. And the willingness to help each other and trying to learn should also come from both sides and not just getting stuck in front of TV/FB/YT (or whatever it is) and saying this/that is your thing and I’m not helping. Now, I understand that a disability can severely alter the ability to help (my husband is disabled as well though not severely) but there is always this emotional support and simple willingness to wanting to help and maybe asking “what can I help you with?” even if it’s just changing the water or feeding the animals (we only have poultry). I think you can tell that I agree, it is not merely a gender thing, an unwilling spouse is found on both sides, but being a team requires the willingness not only accepting being lead by your spouse, but also acknowledging and supporting the others’ interests and letting them know that ‘you’re not alone in this’.
But it seems that the two of you have figured it out for the two of you. Lucky the two of you !
To so many others, like myself, it’s not quite the case and have to continue the struggle until our unwilling spouse is at least somewhat willing to participate in any way/shape/form.
