Foraging idea #10, making a butter from Kousa Dogwood Berries.

Yes, the berries of the kousa dogwood are edible and raw taste like somewhere between banana and mango and a dash of cinnamon made it perfect. This was a first-timer for me and it turned out better than I thought and it will be a staple in my kitchen.

I guess that’s the difference between being book smart and street smart.

    Foraging idea #9

My second harvest of Mugwort, cleaned and sorted, ready to be strung up and first line is dried and can be put up.

Mugwort can be used as a spice which I use sparingly to flavor beans, but I mostly use it as a base for teas.

Mugwort is of the artemis family and more a medicinal than a regular food, so please do your research on it for your own use as I’m not an expert on medicinals and only share with you what I use in my kitchen.

I love my tile floor in the dine-in kitchen and back entrance. I added an Inlay that makes the dining area look like there’s a carpet. We left the old hardwood floor underneath and just put it on top.

  • Thank goodness all of my pre-purchased vinegar in stock is 5%. 👍

Continuing with my foraging tip #8 : purslane/portulaca is in full swing.

While cleaning up the garden today, I thought of dinner. Sautéed with onions and garlic with the first harvest of fingerling and locally sourced fish.

The phrase: “when too many people go in one direction, go the other way “ comes to mind.

    He definitely makes sense.

I never noticed it being cold. It probably is when you walk around in socks which we never do (we both wear sheep skin slippers) and keep our overall room temp at a low 68/-9. We also have an unfinished basement, but have baseboard hot water heater. Our wood burning stove is in the living room where we have bamboo flooring on a slab. Over 10 years now and never once regretted it.

I would have to check on the name/number, but it’s textured, mat and has a brown/sand color. It may be Italian, but I know it’s very fine compressed ceramic to withstand a beatings.

Oh my goodness, I just saw your reply. Thank you so much for the info. My girl is doing much better and has healed nicely. I added some of my oregano in one pail of water and some poultry cell in an other pail as a general supplement boost. I’ll definitely keep your suggestions for next time in my notes. Thanks again.

Omg, yes, I didn’t even think of that… too simple. I have lots of fresh oregano and I guess maybe put some ground glove into their water, if I’m lucky, they drink it.

    Thanks

Guess your neighbor is thinking along the lines of Nate from the American homestead, he called it?! The 3 S’s : shoot, shovel and shut up.

Makes absolute sense what you’re saying. Unfortunately, a bug out off site is not much an option for me living on an island. There’s only so much wooded area and bugging out may actually get tight. I can only hope that when the city folk start swarming, the swarm right past us to go further out east where the farms are.

Yea, we’re going to have to burn the bridges.
