He was an efficiency expert and figured out some amazing ways to get all you can out of the space you have. Plenty of info if you just Google the book title or his name. Happy growing!

I haven’t made the leap to a carnivore only diet, and a huge failing for me is carbs. I haven’t met one that I don’t like, or doesn’t like me back. I am finding myself creeping towards a groundswell change, so maybe it is on my horizon, but I just put 15 meat chickens in the freezer, and Niti said 4 legged creatures.

MemberNovember 28, 2022 at 5:06 am in reply to: What do you do for fun on your homestead?Reading this thread made me think about what I really enjoy around the property. I can join the ranks of the ,”amused by chickens” crowd. They are hysterical. I think I have the haters finally under control. I love to fly kites, but found out the hard way that it terrifies them…hawk factor. Lately I have had gloves on to work, and the dog loves the game of taking one and running like an idiot on fire so mom will chase her to “get it back”. I don’t tell her any different. We go hiking in the undeveloped park land behind the property. Several hundred acres that isn’t mine, but no one else is there, so it kind of is mine. I love the wildlife. Deer in the back yard, talking with the owls at night. Calling in the Toms during mating season, watching ducks on the pond. Listening to bullfrog roll call during the summer evenings. Enjoying a fire. Digging for potatoes. No one told me I would be so excited to see what I could find! Growing a garden has a deep satisfaction. “Tickle the earth with a hoe and she laughs with plants”.

I would probably have a more positive outlook if I hadn’t bought at almost the zenith. The husband lost $5K on the way out. I still have some in.
Jack Spirko on his survival podcast speaks of this ephemeral substance very positively. I am trying to teach myself to see what he sees. Nicole Sauce also seems to espouse this idea.

Temp is 50% of last week. Gah. I am building a greenhouse with rain and snow yesterday, and poor motivation. It has to get done because it’s the deep winter shelter for the hens as well. Is it wrong to look at Slim’s list to see what I’m missing? The deck with all my hardware cloth scraps needs organized. I drained All the hoses, and I have them loaded in the gorilla cart to go out to the shed. Many armloads of firewood need brought out of the valley, where the 80 ft tall swamp white oak fell across last Spring. It’s cut and stacked…just 500 ft. away from the house.

I live in the Midwest, and a YT channel Learn Your Land is a great herbal identification/collection and use channel.

My neighbor’so vocation is internet marketing. When we both grew an abundance, her husband made a roadside stand and she did some Facebook advertising. The trick was a few days a week. We didn’t charge, but if ppl wanted to donate, she had Venmo, a cash box and Paypal. We inevitably made some money. Most of my garden was started from seed for pennies and volunteer tomatoes. It worked out beautifully
