@skainsgirl gave an awesome list. I was also a home health nurse. I think a good start for my recommendations is to add on to or elaborate on some of hers:

First ā€” the survival/emergency med book she mentioned ā€” definitely! You can have every supply under the sun, but itā€™ll be absolutely useless if you donā€™t know what to do with it.

Learn and know your medications (different preparations, dosing, reason/when to administer, side effects, etc.). Example: Aspirinā€”81mg and 325mg tablet strengths ā€” Goody & BC powders that have aspirin and caffeine and Tylenol (aka acetaminophen) with multiple different strengths and additions.

Boudreauxā€™s Butt paste and A&D ointment is fantastic for chaffing/chapping of skin and to maintain skin integrity with pressure injury.

Silvadene is fantastic for burns and wounds but have to get a prescription unless you can get it over there without it.

If you do the digital thermometer, get one that you can replace the batteries and buy extra batteries for it.

Tweezers – get the womenā€™s that are really sharp

Tampons – not only for womenā€™s monthly cycle ā€” also excellent for plugging puncture wounds and gunshot wounds

bandage scissors – a nurse will swear by these ā€” get a good pair that will last ā€” I recommend the Leatherman Raptor trauma shears

duct tape ā€” awesome for everything from taping down bandages to mobilizing fractures and injuries ā€” (I also used to be a trauma nurse back in the day)

Your video had the lidocaineā€¦got something for you to consider. I found and ordered/bought some Lidocaine 10.56% ā€” thatā€™s 105.6mg of Lidocaine in every gram ā€” from Anesten. Comes out of Korea. I ordered the 50gm tub of it and store it in the fridge with my Silvadene.

Iā€™m going to sound really weird, but anybody who has surgical tools, such as suturing kits or trauma shears, needs to invest in a pressure cooker/cannerā€”as in a Presto or All-American canner. Many people preparing already have one because of canning foods. A pressure canner can be used to sterilize these tools for reuse and prevent cross-contamination and spread of infection. I have even pointed out to people that you can use a pressure canner over a fire or on a camp stove. Itā€™s not ideal but feasible/doable, because Iā€™ve used a pressure canner on my camp stove on the back porch when we had a power outage earlier this year (tornado).

I watched your video on your range med bag and thought Iā€™d recommend you visit Bear Independent on YouTube and Patreon. He has huge insight and collaborates with Refuge Medical who makes kits like you have. You donā€™t necessarily have to buy anything, but you can utilize their expertise to build/update your own kit(s) as suitable to your situation.

I would also recommend you definitely have more than one kit. Have one in a couple of different places in the event you canā€™t get to one (lost in a chaotic/unsafe situation) or you need more than whatā€™s in one kit (mass causality scenario). Donā€™t put them all in one place. Secure them in easily accessible places.

I also recalled you didnā€™t buy chest vents because you donā€™t know how to use them. Learn how to use them. YouTube and the internet have an enormous amount of information on those and many other things. Just make sure it is a reliable resource. You can also utilize the google scholar search engine or some of the medical websites that medical professionals use for research articles for specific info. Thatā€™s how we stay up-to-date on evidence-based practice, so anybody can.

Sorry for the lengthy post. I hope itā€™s helpful.

The only online pharmacy that Iā€™m aware of that prescribes medications to stockpile is Jase Medical. Exactly what medications are you looking to stockpile? If you have any chronic medical conditions that require routine medications, one option is to be honest with your healthcare provider by explaining your concerns and your request for an extra prescription for a 1- to 3-month supply that you can pay cash for. Iā€™ve found that many providers (doctors and nurse practitioners) are understanding and willing to accommodate. If your provider is for sure willing to do this for you, you can also try requesting what we call empirical antibiotics (and possibly antivirals). I would even go as far as asking for written instructions and recommendations for when to take them in the event you canā€™t get in touch with them. Worst case, they say no. Oh! Many clinics get samples from pharmaceutical companies, but these are usually newer drugs and no generics the market yet. What over-the-counter medications have you stocked?

Not arguing or choosing sides in this discussion, I wanted to point out the perspective of an inexperienced born-again believer of God such as myself. When I see something like I just read… grown adults arguing like this and “throwing scripture at each other”… I don’t see “Christians” or “believers” defending scripture or beliefs… I see sinful human beings arguing about who is right or more right or wrong or more wrong. This is very poor behavior of which I highly doubt God wanted His message delivered. Every single person who has contributed to that argument has only discredited themselves. I know Mr. Danny and Mrs. Wanda would be upset to see this type of representation under their forum. I am a very inexperienced born-again believer, and I came here because I am trying to learn and pass that learning to my children and their children, Lord willing. This absolutely breaks my heart to see, because I know in my heart that God would also be heartbroken to see an example like this not only being displayed by His children but being shown to His “younger” children. Please be more considerate of who may be witness to your actions. You could negatively affect the faith and salvation of another.

My husband said his tractor, tiller, and FEL are where it’s at!

Going inside to my area…I’d have to say my favorites are the freeze dryer, dehydrator, and my All-American canner.

Hello! I’m Shea (pronounced “Shay” like Shea butter in lotion or Shea Stadium that used to be in NY). I took control of my child’s education when the second half of the school year was cancelled here in Mississippi in 2020. Looking back, it was the best decision I could have made.

I am a nurse and recently quit my job, because I was fed up with the crappy healthcare and total lack of regard I witnessed on a daily basis. I am now at home, going back to college for a higher degree after 15 years of practice, and homeschooling my teen with a toddler underfoot. While my teen and I both have ADHD diagnoses, we are still making it and happier than we’ve ever been. However, because of my ADHD, I have not taken “full” control of my son’s education and rely heavily on a Christian homeschool curriculum. Though this curriculum is a good one, I think I can do better. I am very interested in and appreciative of any suggestions, curriculum, information, etc. that may come from a collaboration of like-minded individuals.

@skainsgirl , where are you receiving education or training on herbals/apothecary? I am very interested in the field but have no idea of where to start.

Side note: I just realized I said I was fine with it coming from overseas and that it sounds terribleā€¦LOL!!! Unfortunately, some things have to be purchased outside of the US, medications apparently being one of those things. šŸ˜•

Awesome! As long as the meds have identifiers on them, Iā€™m good with it being made overseas. The FDA is a racket anyway. Thank you, @NYPDRET2160 !

@culdesacgrocerygarden The main thing I worry about is whether or not Iā€™m getting what Iā€™m paying for.

I know some people will buy the ā€œfish antibioticsā€ to store, but Iā€™m hesitant to do that, because I know thereā€™s a chance for contamination with salmonella and other pathogens that would not be good to deal with in a less-than-desireable scenario. I also know how antibiotics are created and that theyā€™re sensitiveā€”so I donā€™t want to buy antibiotics that are inactive due to extreme heat/cold or sat on a shelf in some warehouse for the last 2 years and not good to me when I do eventually need them (say 4 years down the roadā€¦making them 6+ years old).

I will intermittently ask for ā€œjust in caseā€ prescriptions and put them away for storing, but you have to be careful asking for those too much. And some providers just wonā€™t prescribe some meds just because they donā€™t think you need them. Itā€™s a difficult work-around to say the least, even for me as a medical professional. So I canā€™t imagine the difficulty for some people who donā€™t have connections in the medical field or access to an understanding provider.

Ok. Got another question. Are the tablets/capsules marked/stamped with an identifier, also called an imprint code? Iā€™m a medical professional which is why Iā€™m asking this.

For example, Ivermectin 6mg is supplied by Merck as round white tablets with ā€œMSD 139ā€ on one side and a score (to break if needed) on the other side.

Another example, Propranolol 10mg is supplied by Amneal as round orange tablets with ā€œ10ā€ on one side and ā€œDAN 5554ā€ on the otherā€”supplied by Vintage as round orange tablets with ā€œVā€ on one side and ā€œ54 82ā€ on the otherā€”supplied by Sidmak as round orange tablets with ā€œSL 467ā€ on one side and blank on the otherā€¦ and so onā€¦

I was not aware of Alldaychemist. Thank you for the information. They appear to be pretty reasonable too. When was the last time you ordered from them and what type of meds did you buy, @NYPDRET2160 ?
