Our area post offices are always having Open Hiring days up here. We live in a small country town, 2 blocks from the Post Office, and I’ve actually considered just switching to a P.O. Box. Then we can walk over and pick up the post once or twice a week instead of it getting delivered every day or so.
I’m actually a fan of getting rid of the whole 6 days a week delivery – Just go to Tuesdays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays for deliveries. There are so many Monday holidays where it doesn’t get delivered, and such few post is going out as it is. Two days a week will get the post delivered, and won’t be too much of a burden on the postal workers. -
Re-setting on Carnivore for us
This is also a month of organization and clearing things out. Two weeks ago we did a massive clean out of the basement. This week we organized the tool section, building a workbench to store it all. This next weekend will be focused on putting up new shelving and getting the boxes off the ground and better organized, as well as a medical supply inventory as we hit that section.

We are keeping it simple. This is the second year we are doing Christmas just us – no other family. MIL isn’t happy about it, but it is the only holiday we get as a family to just be us together. Our decorations aren’t extravagant; Little Man learned how to make a paper garland the other day! We are having the inlaws over this weekend for dinner to decorate cookies and then go see Santa and on a sleigh ride at the local historical museum.
We do not have a lot of gifts for each other – one gift from Santa and one from Mom & Dad for each kid. My Man and I are doing an ornament exchange.
I’m a firm believer in Christmas NOT being about all the presents – instead I focus on being present in the lives of those I care about. Making memories and spending time together are what is important to me, and last year Little Man got a lot out of it; he is asking if we are doing our game night again this Christmas Eve! -

Making it shelf stable helps when they don’t have the freezer space. It only takes a short amount of time to reheat the meat they have canned.
Also…do you really NEED all the veg and other sides? If it is that big of a need, then I would start farming that responsibility to the other adult(s) and older children to help with.

I play Oboe, tin whistle, and piano. I need to brush up on the whistle…I’m quite rusty. We also don’t have a piano. The downside to the Oboe is the need for reeds, which can be expensive even if I make my own.
I do enjoy singing, and have a large repertoire of Irish folk and rebel songs I know that I can entertain with.

We have introduced “Mom” and “Dad Tax” to Little Man. If we go to grab a fry or a bite of something from him, he yells “NO! Taxation is theft!”
Parenting win right there.

Next year we will be buying a half beef. Yes, it is a lot of money up front, but it’s not much more than what we would be paying commercially, and it breaks down to be a better deal all around when you realize you are paying the same per pound for all of the different cuts of meat.

Breakfast we have sausage (My Man will cook bacon from time to time, but I don’t eat it). Lots of steaks and burger patties. Season with salt & pepper.
