Look at Bonnehoffer’s definition of “stupid.” A German minister during the rise of Hitler, he was eventually hanged in a camp for criticizing the mania of the Third Reicht. He wrote about how a cultured country of artists, musicians, and scholars could fall for such tripe and then commit atrocities.
