My favorites are the apple pie filling and apple butter, have never made anything else with them. We are getting apples next week and you all have given me some delicious sounding ideas!

I did that last year and thats all I got was seed heads on the onions. Oh and I discovered candy onions only keep about 8 weeks after harvest. They all molded.

Delicata Squash, a variety of peppers, yellow fleshed watermelon. The watermelon seeds are dry but sticky. So Im wondering if it is too late to wash them now that they are dry. No idea what variety, I got them from the Amish CSA. This week they gave me a japanese black pumpkin. I already had bought seeds for that from somewhere, but hadnt grown it yet. Its nice to be able to try these more exotic things that you cant find in the grocery store without dedicating the space in my garden to them. Helps me weed out the ones I dont want. Im already excited about next years garden. 🙏 I saw moon and stars yellow fleshed watermelon on Marys Heirloom seeds store and ordered some of those too. Fingers crossed!

I broke a bone in my foot in August and couldnt find a walking boot in stock anywhere! It was going to take Amazon over two weeks to get one to me. So er-body: Put walking boot on your list of preps! Might not hurt to have splints for arm/hand too.

@Lesa Cut yourself some slack, you are doing awesome! A lot of the people on Youtube have people behind the scenes helping them. I work full time too, it’s not easy! I feel pulled abd pushed in so many directions! The fact that you are building it is incredible. I hope you post pictures of your progress so we can cheer you on, celebrate with you and pat you on the back when you are done.

Following: I just picked up 50 lbs yukon gold yesterday morning! I’ve never done potatoes either. Miss Lippy posted a really good video yesterday for a method that I never had seen before and Wanda has lots of potato videos to I think.

YOU CAN MAKE CHEESE??? which led me down a google rabbit hole, landing on Art and Homesteadings videos, which lead me to Doug and Stacy. WHAT THEY LIVE IN MISSOURI??? Which lead me to one homestead site after another until I found yall. And the first video I watched I think was a Porch Time. I was HOOKED! I had found my people. Gardeners, self sufficiency, talking about prepping, AND they love the LORD? It was so wonderful to find other people who didnt think these things are weird.
I would LOVE to have Ms Lippys spices. But Im going to order regardless.

MemberSeptember 24, 2022 at 5:31 pm in reply to: Most Overlooked ITEM in PreparednessThat was a great talk with Danny yesterday about this. I practice all the time with what I do have. But there are definately some things I need to work on. For a short term solution for heating, wouldnt a few solar panels and some “safe” space heaters work? Something that you wont run out of fuel- I have a buddy heater and some candleliers but thats only going to make it comfortable enough to sleep. I have a gas log fireplace with a chimney made out of siding- very hesitant to convert it to wood burning esp with having asthma. What are your thoughts on using solar panels to run electric space heaters?

Unfortunately there are some people out there like that. I used to follow a lady who has a trike channel. She was camping alone in a national park in the PNW last summer, totally oblivious to the fact that wildfires were raging all around her. She was delighted to have the park to herself and gushing about it. When I warned her, she thanked me. Then a day later deleted my comments, deleted the link to the fire map I had provided, and made a video with drone footage of the fires and her dramatic “escape”. I unsubbed. I dont have time to deal with narcissists. She literally could have died.
