I do my kratky gardening in the garage, mostly Romaine lettuce with some Arugula. Very easy to do. I use Masterblend for fertilizer (amazon) and it’s worked great for me. I can grow it about 8 months out of the year, mid- summer just gets too hot. I use a 14 gallon bin and a 2 inch hole saw for the net pot holes. Just a note, use all the same size net pots in the same bin or you’ll have trouble with the initial water level, experience speaking. I started with one bin and expanded to three. The trick with so much lettuce is to harvest in zones, or you’ll be feeding the neighbors as well. It grows back a number of times after harvesting. Have fun!

I’d stay away from any models with an arm brace and barrels less than 16 inches to avoid the drama the ATF is about to unleash with those models.

I’ve just learned about these this year and have fixed numerous things that I thought I’d have to trash.

My plan is to use the Calcium Hypochlorite to kill all the nasty stuff then filter it through a PortaWell to remove sediment and other particulates and it does so at about a gallon a minute using a two-stage filtering process with carbon block, ceramic standard home filters. It requires less than 35 watts to operate and can run off a 12v battery (8 Ah will run it for an hour). I find this process more practical for larger volumes of water compared to using a Berkey gravity system.
