I have a lot of family in MS. Most of whom I don’t know, but family still. Praying for you all. May God fill the holes in your hearts with His comfort and love.

I’m good with how it is. In fact it was beneficial to me. Met someone I would have never met and was able to exchange some hazel bushes for a black walnut. Just a thought.

Here in Harnett County, a stone’s throw from Moore. My mother and sister live in Moore. Yes this is being investigated as an intentional act. Several substations were targeted by gun fire causing a complete county wide outage. Have not heard of anything else officially but rumors are rampant. One Walmart had large police presence and they told the news to leave due to it being too dangerous. Not much on local stations but manyay be without power until tomorrow. Crews are working to get it back up under heavy security. Mom and my sister are ok for now. People are fleeing the county to get gas and food, which will tighten things up around here for the next day or two. There is a curfew from 9pm until in the morning sometime. So hopefully things will quite down at least for tonight. They suspect someone protesting the Trans show that was to happen in one of the towns, today. Will try to let you know more as I find out, not much news coverage that I have seen.

AAlthough our homestead is not anywhere near where it needs to be, i enjoy (heres an old word for you) just piddling. Just a day (usually Sunday) of doing whatevere whenever. If I feel like building something then that’s what I do, maybe finish something I’ve already started. If I get bored with whatever I’m doing, stop and take a walk around the 7 acres (mostly wooded). No real agenda. It maybe just getting in the car and riding for hours. 2 hrs to the beach, about 3 to the foothills and another hour to the mountains. The joy of living in the middle of the state. Just a “fly by the seat of my pants day.” That way I can release the pressures of having to get it done now.

I agree with AiNTRiteAcres. Homages a lot of good.points. I would add take a look at your area. Make a “map” of it. Place your buildings, garden, access point(s), etc. Then ask,, what needs worked on, is there a “fence” line doesn’t have to be a wire or fixed fence this time. Natural barriers make great fence lines, thickets, brush piles (compost piles), anything that can be used to sure up security or give a place to observe from. These can also be used to direct traffic to a specific path or area to help you know they are there.

Also ask what are our weaknesses? Is the barn too fat from the pasture. Is the garden too far from the house. Am I making extra trips or rounds to cover the same area. If I am walking past the garden to feed the animals and the garden needs water, can I turn it on, go feed the animals, then turn it off when coming back. Instead of going to feed the animals, the turning on the water and having to go back later to turn it back off. Mapping things out cam help with how my day goes. You may learn to change your routine, move things around a bit, or find an area you completely over looked while focusing one the task at hand. Do this once in a while as you grow. Priorities tend to focus on one task at a time (which is good) but mapping out the bigger picture helps with those priorities.

  • What I would do is not the thorny briars but I would plant useful items. (Blackberry, grapes, prickly pear cactus, etc.) Research beneficial plants that can provide the security you want, but supply a food source as well. Also, is your drive is a straight shot to your house, look at ways of making that crooked or harder to get into. Expose their sides in the open area. Grumpy G made a video in Sept on this. Sorry can’t get the link to work.

Thanks, the timing for.me to read this is right on schedule.. I am currently being tested for all types of arthritis. I have been diagnosed with it in my ankle and neck. And this week pain was enough to cause me to go to the doctor. Yes, I have one that listens and knows I do not want drugs if at all possible. But he wants to find out what type I have in order to find the best treatment. Thanks again for the ra information.

More good news. My daughter has not only learned to use the axe, but also used the circular saw and pneumatic nail gun while helping me to build a small shed for my wife to store some gardening items in for her container gardens. So blessed that she wants to learn this stuff. Have also had her helping work on a car that will become hers. And all this at nineteen. 😀

They have nothing to go on. I bet they are hoping to get someone to speak up by posting this.

This is what I was thinking. There was a Trans show going on that morning. Another reason to grab our guns and commandant Cooper will fall right in line. But no group or person has taking responsibility or said why they did it.

That’s right. I am hoping mom and my sister will be more in tune to start now. They have been hesitant.

It does. But remember that even when Jesus healed the ten lepers, only one was truly thankful. All the rest went on their merry ways. But he heard the one, that I believe is how we will be, we will be so close to the Spirit that we will know the one.

I can relate to this. I work with a guy that is the only one in a house of nine that is working. Well at least for the house. His daughter has a job and gets gov help for her three kids (all under 6). But she pays no bills and writes her name on her food so no one else can have it. At least two sons have no jobs at all, because $11 /hr at Hardee’s (walking distance from their house) is not enough. Enough details you get the idea. But what gets me, he complains about needing money all the time, so our boss tries hard to get him at least 40 hrs a week (work is slowing down) and many times he can get an hour or two of over time per week. The leaves early or right at regular time. It’s sad because I use to try to help him when I first meet him. But I have learned in this case you can’t help someone that doesn’t or will not help themselves. They will complain that I need food and then complain that you gave them something they don’t like. Listen to the Still Small Voice and He will guide you as to who to help and who not.

As for zones, a map will help with that. What do you need daily? That’s most likely in zone one. What’s maybe daily, but you don’t necessarily want next to the house (animals), then zine two, hunting or land for firewood, then father out. Things that may not need tended would be the farthest.

Do you have blackberry or grapes? You can grow these on a fence line. Nobody wants to climb over blackberries. Security is not just keeping people.out but rather channeling them to a better position for your advantage. I would.like to keep them out, but if not, place them in the open pasture with nothing to hide behind. This will give you the advantage. A river is a great advantage. Again an opening they would have to get across. What ever you use, make sure it’s something someone could not use against you. If it is a heugal mound that they ahave to get around, plant cactus, yucca, or whatever plant would cause them to say, I am not laying on that to hide. This would be on the outside perimeter. On the inside plant you crops that will provide food. Check out the YT video by PermaPasture and others on Don’t defend you home,, but defend your homestead. Or something like that. It’s an eye opener for security. Just remember, don’t let presser or hype get to you. Soldiers march miles, one step at a time. You have started and are farther than when you started.
