Mark any water sources, editable plants, natural security barriers, etc. This will give you somewhat of an over view. Then you can plan housing, garden areas and such. Try not to take away from what is already provided on the land. Remember one step at a time is the start of a long journey.

Thank you.

Check into the New Mexico state page. Also check out Arizona, and Texas (El Paso). Possibly international with Mexico. Check out other states with similar terrain. These may help with things. Also ask questions on here with specific problems. We are all here to help each other. Hope this helps guide you to what you need.

Let’s start with welcome. This can be overwhelming but just as eating an elephant, take it one bite at a time. All kidding aside, never be afraid of asking questions, but be careful the result may be a lot. As with the military, take what you want use what you take and leave the rest for someone else.
Also remember, you never really make a mistake. You only learn what not to do the next time.

You have gotten good advice from the water line but another area to be considered is sewer (if you have county/city line) and septic. Roots can wreak havoc on these as well. Same advice for them. Trust me replacing a sewer line from your house to the road gets exapensive.

MemberJuly 12, 2023 at 4:13 pm in reply to: “The Great Awaking or The Great Falling Away”Let me first say I’m with you, but we left our congregation for two reasons mainly. The first was I felt the Lord leading us away from our co congregation. This is hard to explain but I felt like Abraham. God said go and I said where to. God’s answer was I will tell you when I’m ready. This was prior (just months) to covid. While doing this I have been saddened by what I have seen in ‘churches’ (of multiple denominations in this area. I’ve seen pastor ‘tickling ears’ in order to line their own pockets, to one pastor (at a place I felt could be where the Lord wanted me) stating ‘if we want to compete with another church then we must do such and such. To me the body of Christ should work together and not run it as a competition, to others done right out preaching everything but the Word of God. All that to say, no we have not landed where the Lord wants us yet, but I promise I may have left a congregation but I have not left the Lord. Do I suggest anyone leave, NO! Unless led by the Lord. Do I recommend everyone to do what I have, NO. For we should not forsake the fellowship. Unless the Lord leads. All that to say, don’t be quick to judge all those of us that have ‘fallen away. Some of us are on a learning lesson and am being taught by the Great Teacher. While on the other hand don’t think all are falling the Lord, many have fallen and we should morn and pray for them. May the Lord come quickly. The main thing is trust God and you will never lose, even through the hard times. Sorry for the long rant.

Hang in there. We all go through the good and bad. I’m in NC and have also gone through the heat and rain. The tomatoes are having blossom rot and we are adding calcium in hopes of saving them. But the green peppers and banana peppers are doing OK. We have even gotten a handful of potatoes. And this was all planted after a round of gout in my right ankle took me down for almost a month. Our onions and garlic have not done too much. But found out the root vegies do better in the fall/winter time here. This allows the root to grow as opposed to the tops. We have some concord grapes and hoping they will turn and we can get them before the animals do.
Well enough with me, just don’t give up. Find out what you can still grow (even in containers if necessary) and keep going.

Start with the fact that you have not done anything wrong, but learned what not to do the next. Then what the others have said should help. Attitude has a lot to do with many things. Negative items will bring you done but if you learn from something (even if that is not what to do) then thing were not wasted and you can always start over. (Even if not this year, then next). You should have time to correct things because different things grow at different times of the year. Don’t start over, only correct things that need to be.

MemberJune 7, 2023 at 5:41 am in reply to: 230 vac inverter to house breaker box – weird things happenedThe smaller wiring may have been the issue, but I would worry more of it being a fire hazard. The inverter should have recommended a wire size. I would go with it. Also when connecting it up, (since you are using the white as hot) do not (again do not) connect the white to the neutral (other whites) in the box, as this will send voltage backward on the other circuits and burn everything up. If the white is hot from the inverter it should act as a second main going into the box. Also turn all breakers off, once the inverter is in then turn your circuits on one at a time. This will help.prevent over loading and causing a surge from the inverter. Hope this helps. It is hard to say without being there. By the way, I am not an electrician, but have at times work with power. You may want to check with an electrician.

This will allow someone to know it is hot and not neutral. Hope some of this helps.

Semper Fi my brother in arms. Army vet here. Thanks for your service. I can’t help with the land site/app, but a lot of the sites have filter where you can limit the search by acres or price, etc. These will filter out the smaller plots.
Also, if you go to the state communities. In your case TN. And join it. That will help with finding others in the area you are looking for. Also might want to join area states as well, depending on how close to thee state line.

There are those quick to provide ‘answers’ and suggestions. Please don’t get me wrong, those are needed in timeand I hope they are giving with God’s lead. But the one thing you asked for above all is prayer.
Father, I lift Laura up to You. You alone know the future and are the Answer to our problems. I ask that You provide her strength and wisdom. Give peace to her husband and daughter. Show them You are in control. Ease the minds of the young ones involved in these changes. Help the all to understand You are still in control. I know from experience that You sometimes allow us to see all the problems with no solutions in order for us to fall on You even more. In Your time lift this family from the rubble that they see. Laura has finally asked And we reach out with her, in the strong name of Jesus, Amen.

MemberAugust 3, 2023 at 5:14 pm in reply to: “The Great Awaking or The Great Falling Away”I’m sorry if I was not clear on forsaking the fellowand are worse ship. I am not a lone wolf. I still fellowship with a lot of brothers and sisters. Some of which have also been led to seek other fellowship. We are to sharpen each other. What I meant was that some ‘in fellowship’ should be ‘left alone’ as they are but wolves in sheep’s clothing. And this may include the entire congregation. So if your church is opposed to God’s true words, the (for lack of better terms) forsake the fellowship. Find other true Christians that can support you. But chose this only at God’s lead. Don’t let my earthly words sway. If you are considering leaving a fellowship, PRAY, and PRAY HARD! This is not a light choice. It took me about a year prior to making mine and I had no more questions of the leadership to do this. I have been both blessed and busted at this. There are some at my old congregation that I am still friends with and some that I am still friendly to (as I try not to ‘unfriend’ anyone, but simple not fellowship with them). Some have said I was.stupid to do this but I have had the opportunity to preach at some places I would not have if I was still sitting in the same pew. Jesus sent the twelve out on occasion, and our church’s still send missionaries. This is my personal missionary journey. And I have found other churches that are ‘preaching the Jesus that Paul preaches’ and are not in a personal relationship with Christ. And that is what fellowship is all about relationship. Without the fellowship with Christ, our fellowship with each other is nothing more that of the pagan or Satan worshipper next door. So yes we can leave a congregation or not fellowship with some and still retain our fellowship with Christ. I hope this helped clarify things.

Not sure on your area as to what to plant
Talk with a local extension office or school that has a garden/farming program. Those can be found online for your area. I was told by a local community College that root vegetables (carrots, turnips, and such)do well in this area over winter. Plant prior to first frost so they can become established with some tops and then when the colder weather comes it will put all its energy into the root. I also know alot of people Around here will grow their ‘greens’ (collards, broccoli, etc ) in the late summer/early fall and some in the early winter. Again talk with the local folks (farmer’s market) and they should be able to let you know better for your area.

If you have some items, post what you have, then if someone is interested you can connect with them and then message them any personal info.
