I might have some around here. I’ll try and look it’s not something I grow anymore. Are you wanting it for sweet corn or field corn / dry corn. I ask because for dry / field corn I find bloody butcher does better here in VA’s red clay. It’s also heirloom seed and I have plenty of that. Gave Tag & Bee a quart bag full last year.

I use them for all sorts of stuff myself. I store stove ash and charcoal for sifting out the coal and then spread the ashes in the garden. I also store the charcoal in them until I’m ready to inoculate it for soil amendment. You can also fill them with charcoal and walk or drive over them to crush it nice and fine. A cut open bag makes a fair windshield blanket for snow / ice / frost. They also fill nicely with the split off chips from splitting wood to use for kindling. They also make a great seat cover for wet , snowy, icy conditions that comes right off for four wheelers and such. You can use them for catching the debris from cleaning out gutters. They make fair leaf collection bags too. They also can be used as a suitable mat for fiberglass repair or creation with a little preparation. Potato, or any kind of collection bags for harvest. Kids crafts like kite making. They are also pretty good for dragging around the garden collecting rocks.

I’m sure I have several more but that’s all off the top of my head.

So far so good around here. Having technical difficulties getting any videos edited and posted, we just don’t have the bandwidth (phone hotspot) or knowledge. We are working on it as time allows.

Started pumping water at 12:45 we’ll see how long it takes to fill a 1500 gallon tank at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Not sure exactly where I set it before hauling arse to make sure it was working! I’ll post pics once I can get them emailed to my computer, takes a long while around here!

The throttle kept pulling itself back so no idea on how long it takes or how fast it pumps. From the way it looks it’s less than the old roller pump was! It also used 4-5 times the fuel! But that may have something to do with it sitting and running but not running fast enough to pump. I’ll just have to wait and see how this shakes out I guess. It’s also having to pull through an undersized intake pipe since the 1 1/4″ foot valve got delayed in shipping. I hope switching from a 1″ intake or suction pipe to a 1 1/4″ speeds things up some.

Ches and I got the pump built. It’s up the hill doing a break in run with no load right now. I’m hoping the foot valve shows up tomorrow before we have to use it otherwise we will have to rig it up with a 1 inch pickup line instead of the 1 1/4 it needs. Amazingly the 12+ year old, new in the box engine cranked on the first pull! I was shocked to say the least. Went ahead and used the 13hp Honda clone engine even though it’s probably overkill for this pump. Certainly shouldn’t be short on power!

We made the run to Richmond yesterday and met Lefty. Everything seemed okay so she came back with us. She had to sleep in the girls room last night, today we try and move her camper in place and start getting it setup. She started a Youtube channel about her new adventure I will get you guys a link if you want.

It was cold as crap last night I’m glad she opted to stay upstairs for the night or she would have frozen, dropped to 24f overnight. I think her day yesterday wore her out as she’s still sleeping. I’ll be waking her up soon as it’s getting close to warm enough for me to work outside. Glad I was able to get a couple hours this morning.

If enough of the parts have arrived for the water pump we also have to get that done.

Looks like things are fixin to get a little more interesting around here. Tomorrow we go to meet a young lady who wants to try homesteading life off grid. I’ve arranged for a camper for her to stay in and I’m planning to let her use up to an acre for her own in exchange for helping me a day or two a week around the place. It may well be a huge mistake but sometimes ya just gotta take a chance! If this place is ever going to move forward from here I need help to make it happen.

Then do a little research on Bloody Butcher and let me know if you want some seed. It’s an old OP type that’s highly sought after by high end restaurant’s for making many things including Booze. It’s used on old school farms for EVERYTHING. . .

Yeah I despise doing the same job several times on account of not being able to get the parts I ordered the first time.

Before anyone acts on this let me see if a smaller 5-6 hp engine will run the pump because with the 13hp it burns WAY to much fuel for the little water it pumps. Originally I had ordered a pump twice this size but no one had one in stock and I needed it NOW not in 6-12 weeks!

There’s just not enough fall to the creek to activate a ram pump. I own about 180 feet and in that distance it only falls maybe 6 inches! BUT it’s 24 feet wide and 12-18 inches deep. I can however make ethanol and convert the gas engine to that fuel. We fill a 1500 gallon tank and gravity feed from there.

Help is good and she jumped right in with both feet learning and doing on the fly! She ran the grinder for a half hour or so and then helped get engine bolted to the frame along with the pump itself. Between the two of us we can just mange to move it around.
