Also, if you do not mind waiting/experimenting, you can start some from seeds of good fruit. You might get an excellent surprise or you might get free firewood. I have 3 peach, 2 mulberry 2 apple and 1 pear that I started from seed. Expecting(hopefully) my peaches to bloom this spring. Oops …1 one lemon (that has given me 1 lemon), a meyer lemon, and a tangerine.

We just got a few ibc containers. Have to rinse them out, connect(do not know how yet) them together and connect to gutter system. Too bad we did not fet them a few days before the rain tonight.

Thank you Lord for the rain we are getting at this very moment!

Redbuds are beautiful also and I have heard the seed pods are edible when young. Haven’t tried it. And my rabbits and goats love redbud and mimosa leaves.

I am going to start a few seeds this week. Very sorry for the late reply. Tate county here. Which I call God’s country. Lol. Now wishing we lived further from the city….started to sell off farms around here and planning dreaded subdivions. I might have a breakdown! Hahahahhahh😂

Hello, Robin66. I am in 7b in MS also.

Congratulations on your fig tree! Sounds great!

I feel you. Baked goods are my downfall and I am not a big meat eater. Love vegetables and fruits.

Thank you for posting this information as there are probably many that do not know this. Also, many now old varieties of fruits were found as chance seedlings in orchards. I am fine with waiting. Took 4 years on the lemon which is much quicker than what I have seen posted on the internet.
If they do not make good then I will plant something else in their spot. Life is about surprises and experimenting with plants is a great rush for me.🙃

We actually had a mimosa to die in our pasture and the goats ate the leaves quickly, but not the pods. Did not know that about them being posionous?

100% agree. We have troughs for animals and a few small catch barrels, but this should help us out a lot.
