MemberSeptember 19, 2022 at 2:33 am in reply to: Hey US vets; at least we don't have to deal with the V.A.C.After Vietnam, I stopped into a VA office to find out what was going to be available to me as a Veteran. Well, I got my answer: NOTHING (Oh they did give ma a bumper sticker which was a replica of the service ribbon)
So, I’ve never darkened their doorway again nor have I ever received any kind of contact from them what-so-ever. I just go under the assumption that they no longer exist. 🙂 -
I share your misery …

I use the Mozilla ‘Firefox’ browser. It offers me more protection. Personally, I stay away from Chrome.

The only thing I would caution you about would be using enough outside flue to get you to a height for proper draw/ventilation.

Not much of a story to tell … but Yoda (and Bee) already has my promise to send her one of my cuttings when ready. So, get ready to see for yourself. 🙂

Just a heads-up … Even if you don’t have a Facebook account, it knows all about you. Especially if you visit sites that have that neat little row of social media icon links on their pages. If you’ve ever filled out an email box to join a group, receive a newsletter or download something, Facebook is watching most of the time. Plus, most people do not read the Terms Of Service of each website they visit. You may be shocked what you have agreed to by just navigating their website. “Nothing is private these days.”
I rarely look at a Facebook page but my neighbor monitors it daily. We always laugh about how Facebook will offer up advertising to him directly related to the conversations we had the previous night sitting on my porch. It’s proof that our conversations are monitored by our cellphones. And … that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Having been born and raised in the South many moons ago, the woods were my playground. With poison ivy and poison oak being so prolific, I always had bouts with the stuff. I could just about look at it and suffer. What does this have to do with honey? Well, there were two things everyone kept on hand in those days. Local honey and a medicinal bottle of bourbon. Unfortunately, honey wasn’t a help with poison ivy/oak. However, even back then, everyone believed local honey was the item to keep on hand to prevent allergies. So why did I bring up poison ivy and poison oak?
One summer I worked for a crude oil pipeline in order to save money for college. One day, while going through the supply room of the company, I happened upon a little green box that caught my eye. It contained several small vials of liquid and directions on when to mix each vial with water and drink it. It was taken over several days. The Purpose … To make you unresponsive to poison ivy and poison oak. It explained how it would gradually tune your body to not respond to the oils from the plants. Knowing how honey did practically the same thing, I took it. As it said might happen, I developed a dime size breakout of poison ivy on my arm. Once that disappeared (in the 60’s), I have ‘never’ had aother reaction to poison ivy or poison oak. It worked. So, I would agree, putting something bad in over time can definitely help your body to keep the same bad things at bay.

Sub #57 I believe.
Took a quick look at your video list to visit later and one caught my eye immediately. It was the one where you are inspecting your husbands hunting clothes for possible needed repairs. Now that was something I had never expected to see. 🙂

Just checked out your Etsy store. Do you do custom work as well? For example say I wanted a tag that had the Dive Flag (scuba diving) with monogram in the center or to one side, Etc. Or perhaps a custom garden flag that would match a friends personality?

Fortunately, I took charge of my own healthcare and have never had to worry about the Government’s help. So, that was one good thing that did come out of their uselessness in the past.

Not really ‘strange’ seed but a real pain in the rear …. Blueberries
Just don’t ever make the mistake of telling me it can’t be done like one lady did.
I was also told I couldn’t grow Vanilla Orchids (Vanilla Bean) since I didn’t live in the tropics. 🙂

MemberSeptember 17, 2022 at 6:27 pm in reply to: Yoda’s favorite old fashioned raspberry jam recipe…Yoda … One of my favorite food items is Fig Preserves which I have never made myself. Unfortunately, all the widow ladies that used to keep me well stocked have now all passed away. So, guess it’s time I learned.
With that said … Is that something you make? If so, have you perhaps made a video about it? -
You might want to edit you comment and add “.com” to your link.

Something I learned many years ago. The same person who won’t bother to take for free, will gladly accept the item as a “gift”.
So, when you have extra, just bag up some as gifts for folks and leave on their doorstep with a note. If there’s a fire station nearby with men on duty, drop off a load there. They usually have a kitchen and cook. Etc. Just my two cents.

Although I haven’t been personally canning for as many years as most of those my age, I did grow up watching things being canned and I am guy after all. The interesting thing about Ms Lippy’s method is the removal of as much starch as possible without actually cooking the potatoes. I haven’t looked at my copy of the Ball book yet to see if it’s in there, but it’s on my to-do list.
