Try Arkansas I’m in north central AR in the Ozarks. A lot of beautiful land, people with manners and values. Lot’s of areas with zero zoning restrictions. Property is up but still cheaper here than many other places.

MemberMarch 19, 2023 at 2:11 pm in reply to: Natβl Action Alert β Say NO to Mandatory Electronic Animal ID by USDADone… on behalf of others I noted that feeding oneself without government interference is a God given lawful right. That such requirements make it unnecessarily expense for all involved. That some religious groups do not permit the use of electricity or electronics and such a law would violate their constitutionally protected way of life. Furthermore any law that excluding them would automatically discriminate and punish those whom were of a different religious belief or lacking a belief. I followed up by asking them to cease and desist.
May not do any good but hey it might open the door for someone seeking to sue later on because they’ve been warned of the violations that would occur.

Welcome to the life and congratulations! We’re somewhat new to it ourselves and though we haven’t gotten one yet we plan to keep 2 to 4 miniature Jerseys. We want dairy and beef. The Jersey in general isn’t ideal for beef moreso for milk but keeping the milk flowing will require the occasional calf. We have 17.5 acres and between the small fields, tree hay plus what we grow we believe we can keep them sufficiently fed. The smaller statute will help us with butchering and meat storage. I’m disabled and wifey is a superwoman but not strong enough to wrestle a 1200lb cow. Plus we plan to do this long after the kids are gone and were much older. So those are the considerations we’re making. Can we feed them from the homestead, will we get sufficient meat and/or dairy, what is their temperament, will processing from home be difficult and how much space will meat storage require. I hope this helps you figure out what breed is best for you. Remember if all else fails you can sell it, trade it or fill the freezer.

It’s not a venture any sane person would desire but as a prepper it’s a necessity. Personally I help anyone I can, most especially if they ask and I have the ability. Unfortunately there are those who are subject to ask with violence. All we can truly do is work to perfect a skill we hope to never use.

We’re on 17.5 acres

No we have deeded access. On the property I have a pond and wet weather creek. Pond is supplied by a low flow spring and the creek. Planning to add rain catchment systems into everything though. With the current structures we have enough surface area to collect enough rainwater for all our needs. May add a few more small ponds though.

We have an artesian well we pull from.

All kinds of crystals, minerals and fossils.

The rocks were actually part of the draw for me. For many rocks are a nuisance but for me I see building material.

Everyone back in GA asks me what grows best in northern Arkansas. My answer… rocks. If I go for a walk, I stumble on a rock. If I dig a hole, I find a rock. If a tree falls over, I find several rocks. If I need a rock, I find a stick… wait!? What?
