I still say that thing needs to be turned into massive amounts of compost. They could already have solar powered harvesting boats out there, bringing to areas other than where it’s heading. High in phosphorus and nitrogen? You mean two the biggest commercial fertilizers, one of which mostly comes from radioactive mined rock, and the other commercially produced with more fossil fuels than cars run on worldwide? But nah, too expensive, and I’m sure there’s some rare tiny shrimp living it in that they can’t mess it up.

They’ve spent all this time watching it and bemoaning the cleanup costs and tourism loss once it hits, without any thought of how to make it useful, well before it hits as well as after. Bah.

I used to think that, but this was probably run off from farms and lawns. Probably filed with herbicides. Might consider harvesting oil from it….

Unfortunately literally everything is problematic. I agree don’t intentionally dump pesticides out of a can and spray it all over your food, but realistically, unless you live in a utopia where no one uses pesticides or GMO seeds for miles and miles, eventually you’re gonna get some of that pesticide through rain runoff, acid rain, intentionally government plotted train derailment “accidents”, etc. Best to not personally use the stuff directly, and do everything you can to filter your water good on your homestead, and have a good herbal detox program for your body. Nobody is gonna completely avoid pesticides. Composting a literal pile of toxic waste is as good an option as any, at least it will get smaller instead of bigger.

Someone with connections will get the Government to pay them to reduce the size of the Seaweed blob while at the same time selling the results to some other connected person who will turn it into mulch. This is how the crony-capitalism system works! I wonder what would happen if people started doing this without the government getting involved?
