    I had an idea….

What if I take edible tree leaves, mulberry, haole koa (Leucaena leucocephala , and some kale and try fermenting it…..

Also this is my first time trying silicone lids, i hear that they work

I have seen Leucaena has been done before, but thought I would give this a go…

I did this , and I did not like how it smelled when I was done. The plus side of this is I have found that black solider flies are highly attracted to fermented vegie’s so I fed this batch to them, I also gained experience with this silicone jar lid…..

Today I am moving on to testing growing mushrooms on wheat that has been cooked. I am going to try these silicone lids on to see if they will work when growing Oyster mushrooms..

Maybe the taste would benefit from herbs and heat like jalapeños?

I’ve not used silicone lids…would like to.

Well, I want to grow more cabbage, or grow something I can barter with my friends who grow cabbage well.

What is an example of it use and benefit?

The video link above shows the plant and they comment on that they ferment it. I have been following various people who have been using “tree hay”…. for feeding livestock…. I have been growing mulberry, and other fodder crops for a few years in order to become more self sufficient.

The leaves almost look like yarrow when you first stripped the leaves off stem

How has it been going with the ferment with the lids?

I’m just about to purchase some of those silicone lids and weights from Masontops. I want more ferments in my diet, but because I work during the school year and take care of both my husband and my stepmom (an hour away), I am thinking the constant jar burping and leaking is just making it harder to want to do it even though it turns out fine. Would be nice if it were just a bit easier.

I have a few mulberry trees although we get few berries. I’ve been thinking of doing something with the leaves. I had not thought to ferment them.

Fermenting the leaves and giving them to animals or use in your compost to feed the worms may be a good option or may not. I always figure when i have an idea that won’t cost me much, what do I have to loose in trying this with one jar? 🙂

Myself, I like to eat the young mulberry leaves raw… for a salad.
