The attack on food…
I am not here to talk about all the not suspicious food processing plant fires we are supposed to ignore. I’m not here to talk about how Big Ag is buying up the future of farming by using what are essentially reverse mortgage loans to suck up small family farms. I’m not even here to talk about how the USDA is using armed US Marshalls to close down Amish dairies. I’m here to talk about your Farmer’s Market, and more, and how our ability to sell and procure food is under attack.
This was finally going to be the year we started selling items at the farmers market. After going to several meetings for different markets, we came to a conclusion. The State (as in the bureaucracy to handles the day to day affairs of the government) is attacking food production at a very local level. The rules and regulations that people must abide by swerve in to onerous territory. I understand the desire to ensure people aren’t out there selling unsafe products. Some of the rules we encountered make do little to nothing to ensure that, and some are counter productive.
Take for example selling freeze dried food at one market. It could not be sold in Mylar bags, and had to be in cellophane. That defeats the whole purpose of freeze drying the food for long term storage, because you can’t gt an air tight seal and the food is exposed to light. Of course, we have to assume that is the point. They do not want to make it easy for people to purchase food for long term storage. Or the rule that if you grew certain vegetables in a green house, it had to be certified by the state. I’m not an expert, by a long shot; how does growing a vegetable in an open garden make such a difference that the State must insert itself in to your business if you grow the same vegetable in a greenhouse. That’s a rhetorical question, so don’t bombard me with responses to it. The point is, the State, in my opinion has no business being that deeply involved in the matter. Some would say,”…or at all”.
Finally, let’s talk about chickens. You may have actually heard of this one. There was talk when the Avian Flu thing was in the news about the way the state was going to handle it. The plan, as far as it was reported, was that if an outbreak happened, they were going to cull all the flocks within a 5 mile radius. I’ve been pretty tolerant, thus far. This would have been one line too many for the state to cross. SOE makes a t-shirt with a chicken on it that reads, “From my cold, dead hands.” I get it and understand it.
As I type this, I can;t help but think that this would be good content for our YT channel. I may grab Yoda, sit down and start filming. Thing is that if we are going to black pill everyone, we need provide a white pill to counter act it’s effects. I know how I feel about the matter; I’d like to hear what you have to say. How do we answer the question “What do we do about it?”
