Morning, from soggy Cypress Gardens, FL! I have been gifted some blueberry bushes, but they might have seen better days. I understand they like their soil pH to be 4.5-5, fertilizer with something used for Azaleas. The plan is to try to keep them in the pots for now. Going to add some additional soil and other amendments.
The real question is regarding the pruning (might not matter with the current state of affairs). I have read that wintertime is best for spring production, however with the neglected state that these bushes are in, couldn’t hurt to prune now. I am just trying to save them for the long haul. There are some more to go get to add to this collection.
Hopefully, you can zoom in to get a closer looking. I have a short video walking around the collection if that would help. just not sure if that could be uploaded.

Blue berries do like acidic soil. I put my used coffee grinds around the base and they are thriving.

Getting these in the ground will go a long way to restoring them. They do prefer moisture. Yes, pruning will help too. Prune out weak growth and cut back with a heading cut in areas you want to flush new growth. On really weak plants, cut back to about two nodes and the entire bush should flush out all new lush growth if they are cared for properly.

On the same topic. I have older bushes at my home that we purchased. I pruned them once, but they are way over my head and need more pruning to open them up. Just afraid of cutting out too much. How much will they tolerate and is there a way to tell how old a cane is?
