About You

About You

I spend much of my time producing and preserving food on my 3rd generation family farm from the 1940s.  I grow in the field and greenhouses for fresh produce year round in a zone 6 climate. I preserve food by canning, freeze drying, freezing, dehydrating and fermentation.

It’s my goal to pull together a network of homesteaders in my area who wish to share their knowledge and support in a way of life which is quickly being lost across America. Forming this network strengthens our knowledge,  our skill set and puts us in touch with people and farm equipment needed to build homesteads.

My formal schooling is a crop science degree from a big ten school and a minor in Ag Education. I began my formal work career pertaining to plants by working for a large 25 acre garden center in northern Va when Bill Clinton was saying “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.” From there I started my own business growing perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, herbs and vegetable plants for retail and wholesale. Today I’m semi-retired and teach others how to be more self sufficient.
