I saw a YouTuber (My Self Reliance), who has built cabins in the woods in Canada and has become self reliant. The first gardens he built starts with him piling up logs and limbs. His gardens were beautiful!

I have watched about everyone of his videos. I adore how he used methods that are for the long term. His gardens are amazing, and I believe he sees the future and is now ready for it.

I don’t know if maybe I am shortcutting the process, but do you see all that wood/leaf litter *under* those branches? The top inch or three under the loose leaves is already years and years of composted material. When needed, I rake up that stuff and work it into my garden and it grows food like crazy! My woodlot is primarily hardwoods and I don’t know if that makes a significant difference from a mix of soft & hard wood trees.

I do much the same I rake up leaves and use them for mulch around my trees. I collect rotted wood and put it under my trees. I cut up trees and put the logs under my trees to rot.

I am all for using every method we can to make those plants to grow. Forests work.

I’ve known about this for years and it was good to get this reminder, so thanks. I had the electric company who came by trimming trees to leave me a pile of chips that I plan to incorporate into my garden this fall.

Yeah about 4 years ago I had 70 truck loads dumped on my 1 acre…

Can’t tell it was even dumped now sand just seems to swallow it.

Been using ramial wood for years. There is old saying: “New forest grows on top of old forest”

Very interesting video. I have been using wood chips for a year so far and see a major improvement in my trees and bushes. I am sure there is only improvement ahead as my garden matures. Thank you for this information.

You are welcome, not my material, but the gent on Gab really has been working for years to grow crops, if you look at his other videos, one can see he gets results.
