POTATOES EATEN BY WHO KNOWS WHAT

  • POTATOES EATEN BY WHO KNOWS WHAT

I built some 2-foot tall raised beds with heat-treated fence wood, where I grew the potatoes. The soil dried up pretty good but the plants still produced a harvest. Harvest was small, but good for my first try. About 25% of my harvest had holes in them; looks like potatoes were eaten by who knows what.

Is this common or did I get an infestation of something? Is this something that I should expect? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Many animals when they can’t find water will eat fruit to get water..

I have seen this happen with squirrels.

Pictures can help identify what you are up against, or even game cameras can help find the problem.

My potatoes get damage from mole crickets. A picture would help us see if it looks familiar.

I have also heard of potato wire worms but not sure what they or the damage would look like….would have to look it up unless some else knows what that damage looks like. I have not had issues with growing potatoes. Thank you

Pill bugs aka rolypolies will also eat potatoes and sometimes tomatoes… I would sift through some of the dirt and see whats there…
