We recently had a break in to our coop and lost half our flock, and the girls are pretty tramatized, Everything is secure now, I had them cooped up for 2 days while doing repairs on the old pen and know they dont want to go outside. I have set all the food and water back outside only, and enticed them with scratch and fresh fruit, but they run back in every time the wind blows or the dogs come out… Anyway I thought if I gave them a partial wall they would feel safer… QUESTION: Does any one have ideas on some fabric or panels to use as skirting, I was worried that it might catch the wind and cause damage to the pen… we get some pretty hefty wind storms sometimes in these ozark hills. I thought about shade cloth or lattice, but neither are ideal…

We use the six foot chainlink dog panels. With a Green shade tarp for 1/2 the top and white netting for the rest. Thinking about using Joel’s or Justin’s methods of portables but even though we are in the desert, coyotes and wolves are close by, not to mention dropped of dogs. We’ve been attacked once and that was when they were free roaming in the vegetable garden just before spring.

I also live in the Ozarks. I’ve used stock panels covered with old bed flat sheets tacked on with business clips! The sheets rarely come loose, but easy to re-clip to tighten. Also, you can easily move sheets to new locations as sun moves throughout the seasons, and they can easily be taken down when high wind, heavy snows, or horrid ice storms are expected!

I used vinyl opaque roofing/siding sheets. Kept out the coons and possums.

Maybe try lattice. You could cut in half length wise to go around the bottom. We have a 20×40 with bird netting, 70% shade cloth on top and an herb/weed bed around the bottom. Good Luck 🙂
