Fall is in the Air, Maybe?

A very busy week that started out with Danny getting a tooth pulled. That went well. No complicating. Our field peas are producing and we are picking, shelling and canning. That has taken a lot of time. We had 3 zoom meetings, visits from 3 granddaughters and then next day my son and his wife. To top the week off, the kitchen faucet was leaking. So replacing the faucet and now back to canning peas. Faith and I made cinnamon applesauce this week. The angel of fall was in the air. But summer tempts linger.

How is your fall so far?

Fall has me scampering to get things done. The trees are starting to change but the weather still isn’t sure about what season it is lol.

Fall lasted only a few days here (so far), and then the forecasts were back to mid- and high-90s in our 10-day outlook. Nights are finally starting to get a little cooler though, which is a good sign. Hoping it all settles in soon so my surviving plants can try and make a comeback.

Central Texas here, it’s been in the upper 90’s, next week temps will drop to the upper 80’s..that’s the plan anyways.. nights should start dropping to the upper 50’s-60’s. Can’t wait!! Been busy getting my fall garden in, the summer peppers and tomatoes are producing again now that the nights are cooling off.

It’s getting chilly in the North here. 61 degrees outside and 58 degrees inside. Pulling out the thermals. Wearing three layers. Racing to get our chicken coop finished. Can’t wait to move more south in the future.

Fall has arrived in WV…we’ve hit the 40’s at night. I’m digging canna and caladium bulbs and digging the lantanas so I can propagate them this winter. Getting my big pots put in the greenhouse. It’s going to be a busy week. God bless all y’all.

So excited for tomorrow, it marks the end of my garden sabbatical. Will be prepping the beds for garlic this week, I think planting on the 10th if all goes well.

Yesfall is afoot in NE Alabama also! Just took a long walk with the dogs and found some turkey tail and oyster mushrooms.

It’s finally cool enough to havesome baby (kits) rabbits born, so that’s great. The ducks and guineas are still laying eggs.

I’m still getting okra and tomatoes (I love volunteer plants! ) and the Cherokee tan pumpkins are getting ripe. Still getting hot peppers and raspberries, waiting on 2 watermelons and the louffa to be ready.

Thanking God for all he’s done. We finally got rain again and it feels and sounds so good!

False fall is underway here in south east ga. This week we have had highs in 90s and night lows of 50 to 60s. Struggling to get my cool weather crops in. Planted some and will wait until the first week in October to plant the rest of my plots. Yesterday was in shorts last night fishing, needed a pullover.

Yep … the leaves are starting to show a little color. The breeze is starting to carry a warning of cooler days coming and the trees are giving away free mulch. It all has us pushing a little harder to get the house in a more finished condition before fall becomes winter. Meanwhile half of us are still in the RV, there’s wood that needs splitten’ and critters needing to eat. It’s a grand life though, at times it’s a trying experience but it’s our experience that only we .. my family can share. Oh… along with the neighbors horse Ginger who seems to prefer our field over theirs lol.

We just got a freeze dryer and we’re emptying out the regular freezer to make room for the next harvest. REALLY looking forward to cooler weather so we can get more work done outside as this summer was really too much for us old farts.

CONGRATULATIONS on getting a freeze dryer, it’s on our wish list!! For now we’re dehydrating fruits/veggies and canning everything that we’re able to.

It sure feels like it here in south central KY and we’re THRILLED ’cause we (my grown daughter and I) don’t manage the heat very well.
