Berkey Water Filter System !
Posted by Summerhat-n-Chicks on October 13, 2022 at 4:33 pmJust watcher a video by the Texas Boys on YT about the Berkey Filter System and it’s shocking, apparently the filters do not perform as claimed and neither are they NSF certified !

I saw one last week that said even the alexapure co. Was deceptive. Bieber had filters tested for the gallons they say they purify. Neither is tested as you said. I’m a but upset about it. I have one of each.
Think we’d be better off using sand, rocks and charcoal. Then boiling the water.

I watched all 5 of his videos and Texas Boys too… pretty sad. Hope others chime in on this discussion

Not to interfere with this conversation, but has anyone seen info on the other popular brand, alexapure…. or something like that? I was on the fence about purchasing one or the other, but the replacement filter prices had me held up… almost the cost of the complete system, yikes

Robert Beaty covered Alexa Pure on hos YouTube video Part 3.

I’m in a Telegram group called MMS drinking buddies. MMS requires clean or distilled water. Many tested different systems and they all showed Zero Water and Aqua Pure to remove down to zero particles. Both Berkey and AlexaPure only removed about a third. Others did worse. I have the AlexaPure as emergency gravity fed (currently using bc my old 10yr wasn’t working right). I’ve invested in the AquaPure, but waiting to get it installed. I bought the 10yr whole house system to replace a 10yr one that I had and didn’t like. I’m crossing my fingers this works better than the last investments.

I started using Zero Water filters about 4 years ago. I still have two Berkey’s with filters put away. I replaced them with the Zero Filters. I LOVE them. According to some tests Mike Adams (Health Ranger) did in his lab…Zero water filters even get roundup out of your water. That was it for me. Plus, when I would test the water with a TDS meter, Berkey was like 20 something. So, I will keep my Berkeys for SHTF water situation. But, the final filter will always be with the Zero filter. I have enough filters put back for 3 years.
I also didn’t like the fact that my Berkey filters started stopping up only after a week of use. They say you can clean them…peel them…I had heard and tried everything. For the cost of a set of 2 plain black filters without the white flouride filters that don’t last long at all….I can buy a years worth of zero filters and they actually WORK. Like I said, I’ll keep my Berkey’s for emergencies. They will not be my last filter though. Zero will. Because I want ZERO particles of anything in my water.

What percent MMS do you shoot far. I’m just finding out about this awesome stuff

I’m in a Telegram group called MMS Drinking Buddies. MMS requires clean or distilled water. Many ran tests. Both Berkey and AlexaPure eliminated only a third of the particles. (I have the AlexaPure as an emergency gravity fed.) The Zero Water and the AquaPure systems showed zero particles after processing. I bought the latter’s 10yr whole house system to replace a current 10yr system that doesn’t work. But I’m waiting still to get it installed. So I don’t have a review for it. The AquaPure 10yrs has filters and such to buy. I decided to buy a 5yr supply of filters and uv light, just in case the company disappears (ya never know these days, eh).

I am up in the air with all of this right now. I know my water no longer has the chlorinated smell and no floaties in it. I like the stainless steel over plastic, but what to do? Like many others, I have extra filters put back.
On the topic of other options, there are the Sawyer products like the Sawyer Mini or the Sawyer water bottles. They filter around 100,000 gallon each. Again, this is if we can believe them. So what to do? Boil our water, filter it ourselves, I guess??

SHTF is a brand that has charcoal as well as silver to purify. They can be found online.

It is pretty sad when companies resort to such tactics. Last year I invested in a filtration system and bought a ProOne filtration system very similar to Berkey, but I did like their filters much better and it was slightly cheaper. The filters are made of ceramic with silver and the system is NSF certified. Nevertheless, this has stirred me up and i’m gonna do some more research still on my ProOne system. I gotta say, though, we also have one of their filters for the shower and my husband’s skin irritations have gotten much better since then which gives me hope that this system might be a good one.

So, okay, I’ve sat down tonight and done some research on the water filter issue and here’s what I found . Both, ProOne and Berkey filter systems were tested in the same Environtek Lab. Documents/test results, for a set of extensive test from both are available and they don’t look that much different neither are the procedures.
But Berkey, in addition was scrutinized by the Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures of California.
So, did I get suckered in by a quick emotional response to the video ?! 🙄 Guess I need to go back and watch all 4 (or 5?) videos if it is actually about more than the 3000gal claim.
I found a lot on both companies and in the end was a bit confused about the hype, but then Natural News was mentioned and guess what, Mike Adams did his own tests of several Water Filtration systems in 2014 and in his Conclusion he recommends only two gravity Filter Systems : Big Berkey and Zen Water Systems, ProOne was in third place. Did those filters change that much in the last 8 years ? I don’t know, but what I do know, I trust him probably more than any other testing site/report of a “Best “ list.

I, too looked at the statements. Lots of possible hype. The do filter, all of them. According to what you want filtered out, Berkey requires 2 filters. One article showed the white filter leaches aluminum back into the water. That was disturbing. Maybe that issue has been addressed somewhere and taken care of. If you know, post here.
Alexa Pure, which we use, claims to be up to the required standards. But did not say it was tested by that company but 3rd party testing. Seems they are all treated by 3rd party, not a bad thing.
At this point, it is personal preference on which to use. Each one has their good points, each one has a couple of issues.
Both claim their filters are USA made.

Do you know if there is anyway to still purchase an AlexaPure? I tried following your link from YouTube last night and it only goes to the emergency food supplies. 🙂

Since my last comment, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this personal choice issue which in turns is also a trust issue. How much research on anything can/should or need we do on anything ? How much and what kind of leniency are we giving each company and their product to, in the end, satisfy us ? And how much can we ask a company to do before a product is put on the market ?
I’ve watched several test videos for water filters and they all have different results. Like Deep South already stated, they all filter, but in the end, it boils down to what you are looking for/what you want to have filtered out and . . . your budget.

In the past I have found one of those channels you mentioned to be a little untrustworthy. I wont call the channel out by name but there has been a fair bit of drama with it, and some of their content has seemed sensationalized for views. I followed some of their advice about a product early on and ended up wasting a lot of money on a product that looks pretty in the pantry but does NOT do a good job. The other channel you mentioned I have never heard of. But I DO trust Danny and Wanda. I have had an Alexa Pure for almost 2 years now and we can taste and smell the difference. I have seen videos where you test the filter by putting red food dye in the water and it comes out clear. I havent done that myself but I trust the old guy I watched that was testing his water to see if his filter was worn out. And it was worn out because the water was pink, then he put in a new filter and the water came out clear. So the previous poster is right, it does come down to a matter of trust.

Mike Adams (NaturalNews.com) did a major test of all leading water filters – large, small, etc., in his ISO 4000 lab and the Berkey and Alexapure were both at the top. It’s accessible (w/ other reviews) from the website but you have to provide your email to get the link – which means you’ll be subscribed to their newsletter. I’ve been using the Berkey travel size for 5 years now and changed the filters once just to be proactive. People may forget they DO need a cleaning depending on how heavily they’re used and there are YT videos to show how to do this. Richie From Boston had a unique way to clean them filters using a power hose attachment to the kitchen faucet. Worth the time to watch the videos!

We’ve been using zero water filters for years. Very much satisfied with the quality of purification that this filter does.
It’s expensive and for a family of four it’s lasts at most two months tops
Anyone else experienced such filters?

I just watched where this young lady actually had her well, house tap water, and then Berkey Filtered water actually TESTED. The TLDR version is she STILL highly recommends the Berkey. Scientifically and flavor wise!
So Danny, Others and myself were wise to get a Berkey and use it.

I’ve used Berkey for years. We have well water in Florida. It definitely filters the water. I think the problem in question is whether it filters chlorine out, which we don’t have. We are very pleased with it.

I like our berkey. If only just because the water tastes so much better than the tap water.
