You are right. I should have included the word quarts. Lol

@stitchlady
I tried to create a document of this recipe in here but I can`t figure out how, but the document section on my desk top is toward the top of the page along with the other sections of feed, photos, albums, discussions, ect.

I did some brown sugar glazed carrots a while back, so good. Plus some canned with no liquid carrots, better than with liquid in my opinion.

I love canning stews. I’ve canned beef stew (steak, potato, carrot, and onion). Today I’m canning pork stew with the vegetables and pork tenderloin. They are great to have on hand when I need something quick.

I love to can items that do not grow here in Michigan. Pineapple, oranges. Oh and pie fillings. Nothing like having a homemade pie super quick.

We are on a mission to can and ferment everything and anything we can get in jar that we use regularly. Salsa is one of our favorites but this year we also put up potatoes, ground beef, chicken legs, pork, green beans, corn and apple butter. Next is tomato sauce and butternut squash. I love being able to go to my basement and grocery shop 😆

We have focused on smoking and canning meat this year. We lose power for a week or
so at a time in the winter or our electric provider shuts the power off
every time it gets windy. Meat doesn’t goo bad on the shelf!-
BBeen focusing on meats including Bacon. Also did ham & bean soup. Beef stew. Would live to can homemade chili next. This past spring we canned about 20 pints home made dog food.

Can you share or let me know where I can find a recipe for homemade dog food?

I Love to can Chili and beef stew. Makes an easy meal when you don’t feel like cooking one night, and just to have some put up in case, is always good. Every time we cook a whole chicken this year, I have made and canned bone broth from it, and put whatever leftover bits of meat there is in it also. I would like to start canning just ground beef, too.

I love canning meat. It’s been a great way for my kids to learn how to put together ingredients for a meal. I love canning chili, stews and soups of all kinds. My kids love teriyaki chicken. They make rice and broccoli to pour it over. My husband loves having seasoned taco meat for a quick burrito for lunch. I enjoy having the open freezer space available for freezing my berries and tomatoes. My oldest daughter is in college and loves it when I send her Cajun red beans and lentil soup. Oh the possibilities.

It truly is a HUGE BLESSING to be able to have home canned items on the shelves to help with quick meals, send to college kids/family/friends!! My 8yr old grandson LOVES to come to Grammie’s house for “Grammie made food ’cause it’s way better than store food!” I also love having room in my freezer for meats that I get on sale and until I am able to get them cooked and into canning jars! 🙂

It does taste better. Your grandson is lucky to have a grandparent to have that experience with.

(when canning meat it’s 90 minutes for quarts and 75 minutes for Pints)

Just used a Jar of chicken to make chicken and dumplings. Wow the time is cut in 1/2. Definitely makes a difference having the meat complete ahead of time.

One of my favorite comfort foods is a hamburger stew.
I convert anything possible from store canned goods to home canned but here’s the original recipe:
Son-Of-A-Gun Stew
Cook and drain grease from
1 pound ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
Himalayan Salt and Pepper to taste
Add (including liquid prom cans)
2 cans Ranch Style Beans
2 cans whole corn
2 cans stewed tomatoes (I often substitute 1 or both cans for Rotel)
2 pounds frozen okra
Stir together. Ladle into jars. Add water if needed to have ratio of fluid needed. Pressure can for meat times. You can thicken after opening by simmering in a pot without a lid.
*If I’m not canning, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer so the flavors marry.

I love to can beans. I only soak them over night and then can them up. With my health issues i can have control over whats in it and keep out the salt, sugar and other preservatives out of it. Its a good day project but will provide my family ready to eat beans for at least 2 years. I also really enjoy my canned tomatoes. Although, the tomatoes do take alot more work.

We can lots of meats such as Beef Ribs, Chicken, Hamburger and Elk. It makes for quick meals when opened and added to other ingredients.
