Well, the rain missed us 😭 It’s on the forecast for today so we will see. New roof is supposed to start today so there is hope! 🤣

Hi and welcome to Freesteading! Enjoyed your video and saw some great med preps I really need to add. Goshen Prepping has some great videos on med preps you can check out.

I would consider adding Aspirin, Goody Powders, Tylenol, Preparation H, Boudreaux’s Butt paste, A&D ointment, chewing tobacco, Silvadene, Calamine, Normal Saline, 90% Alcohol, Coban, Instant Ice packs, butterfly steri-strips, wound packing strips, duoderm, a digital and mercury thermometer, tweezers, b/p machine/cuff/stethoscope, a watch, 30cc syringes, tampons, pads, bandage scissors, duct tape, and a good survival/emergency med book. That’s just off the top of my head. I am sure some more will come to me! lol

I don’t have all these myself yet…on my long to do list. Plus, I have a lot of other things people don’t normally stock leftover from my parents. As well as from my days as a home health nurse. Some of these can be substituted with other things, such as Neosporin plus for preparation H. You can make your own butterfly strips. Many of these are name brands that you can get generically.

In your case, I would add a couple of cheap vapes. I personally use a Novo 2 that has pods and buy vape juice, but there are many choices out there.

Great topic to post. Can’t wait to see what others add to this list.

I am single-steading on my journey to self-reliance. Not by choice, just the way it worked out. My Dad passed away a year ago just as I was trying to extricate myself from a WTHWIT relationship of nearly 9 years. I relocated & moved in with my 93-year-old Mom. We butt heads a lot, but I remind her I get my bossiness from her. But I also inherited a house in need of repairs, 1 1/2 acres in need of some serious love, a large shop full of goodies needing organization (now also housing my goodies), an old overgrown garden, a shed in dire need of repair, and a world that has just went plum crazy! All this on top of cooking, cleaning, laundry, groceries, errands, elder care, and managing bills.

Overwhelmed? You betcha. Gonna give up? not on your life. An RN by trade, I took the skills I already had (to name a few: sewing, cooking, crafting, carpentry, plumbing, minor electrical, planning & organization) and this year added prepping, pressure & water bath canning, pickling, and am initiating gardening & permaculture now. But it is slow going, as others have said the mind is willing, but the body has different ideas at times. And I don’t see myself as old (will be 57 in December) Just had 2 days of unplanned down time from doing yard work, sawing pallets for raised beds, and trying to finish up a bathroom remodel/repair. It is difficult to admit when a task requires more than yourself…but I am learning that too. And my task list is a mile long! lol

Time is short to get prepared for what is to come. Wish I had a partner but will be happy just to be part of a community working toward common goals. I am thankful for our internet communities. I look forward to an established local community. Community is how we are going to get through this.

What’s your pattern for the crochet ace bandages? I have ace bandages, but you know they wear out over time…and I have lots of yarn 😀

I have used the same method for years to protect outdoor plants when I lived in zone 8b. Christmas lights and well secured plastic sheeting.

This is what Botulism can do. Note that she bought the canner at a garage sale but never looked up how to use it properly.

Water has been my primary concern. I have been trying to find used food grade IBC totes for the garden without success. They are all fertilizer and herbicide. I did find that they make liners for them that are really affordable, but they are for reuse of food grade IBC’s. I did manage to get my hands on a few 55-gallon plastic barrels.

I also saw a video from Arkansas Prepper with some really neat ideas I hadn’t seen before. B Lynn check his video for gutter hookup. Love his clean out system. DIY Rain Barrel System Explained – YouTube.

You could use the first barrel from his system and tie that into your tote. Lots of videos on IBC connectors and adapters from folks right here on freesteading.

Had to laugh about the mosquitos! Just left St Tammany after 26 years and am adjusting to the different climate here in North Louisiana. The mosquitos and gnats are thriving here along with red bugs and ticks. I live right by Lake D’arbonne.

We are pretty much in the same boat. Also, extra prepping in case my kids who are still in St Tammany and Lafourche end up here.

It is so flat down there! Loved it whenever I got to drive in Northern St Tammany and Washington Parish. Reminded me of home here in North Louisiana with the rolling hills. Be prepared for hard freezes if you are moving North of Lake Pontchartrain. I used some Christmas lights and heavy plastic with no problems. Constantly covering and uncovering throughout the winter. I will have to adjust quite a bit this winter. I moved at Christmas last year and all my plants had to be indoors.
