Good afternoon, Sarah here from South Dakota. I have 3 boys, ages 7.5, 4.5, and the youngest will be 2 on Sunday 1/29. Currently our oldest two children are in public school, preschool and 1st grade. We wanted to start homeschooling right away this month, but circumstances led us to deciding to let them finish this year in public school and next fall we will start fresh. We have a Christian Homeschool Conference in May where there will be some curriculum vendors and speakers with more information that will hopefully help give us some direction. I have done a lot of research and I’m concerned with getting all they need without drowning my kids! We know we want the main focus to always be Christ! My fear is picking curriculum and it not working well as I can’t afford to be switching up during the year. Any advice and encouragement is welcomed!

Most definitely! We are looking to add some smaller projects for our kids this year. Our youngest is only 2 but he gets upset if we don’t slow down and let him help.

Being in South Dakota I never considered being able to grow in January, however I just found out my husbands coworker has a grow room in their house and grows food year round, a new idea to implement this year I think.

Here in central south Dakota we have been pounded with 2-3 feet of snow in the last couple of weeks. We had two days of -50 and unfortunately lost our two best sows and had another abort. We are staying positive as we have 3 gilts ready to breed and several more in the next few months. The decision we are struggling with is weather to castrate our current boar or find him new sows. He is 2.5/3 yes old, through a great babies, and is a big baby himself most of the time. Time will tell.

I grew up on a small family farm and it’s in my blood. God has blessed us to be able to carry on. We don’t have a lot but we have enough and our kids are learning about hard, honest work.
