I personally prefer to dehydrate my herbs. I use a dehydrator, my oven as well as air dry in the summer as well as hang dry in a brown paper bag as the temps begin to get cool.
Since I use an alcohol base for tinctures, they last quite a long while, yet I also keep them in a cool and dry place. I’ve had some for a few years and are still effective. -
Our Blue Seal store has “some” pricing, but they are really fun and interactive people, that I just ask when things are not listed. I purchased all the grains I wanted in bulk. None were in the store, but they looked each one up, told me the price, placed them into my order if I wanted it. Paid, then went to the delivery/pick-up pad where they loaded it all into my vehicle.
I tried Agway, and usually a good place to buy from, something has changed, where the pricing is much higher than other places and they are a wee bit snobbish. sigh…I’ve been purchasing wild bird seed from them for a long time. I have a Duncraft about a mile away that I can get my wild bird feed from.
If you do go into business for yourself, and if your prices are a little higher than others around you, make sure you have great customer service. I always go back to where the custer service appreciates their customer.
Yes, we have TSC but we have transitioned, and I’m really happy because Blue Seal is less costly.

Heidi, I agree with your methods. I have started to make wine, based on what I have learned from you and others. I like my garlic infused honey, so I can see how it can work with other herbs.
You are correct. Not everyone will do things the same. I have also made tinctures using vegetable based glycerin for those who cannot have alcohol.
I preferred to use dried herbs for tinctures, ointments, etc. yet have used fresh as well. And although I use dried herbs for teas, I love using them fresh from the plant. β₯ -

I love the water treatment for them. I am in NH, where in the summer it can get rather hot, that we had to put a cover over part of their run so that could get some shade.

We love ours too. First year raising them and they are tough and lovable girls who all produce for us.

Hi Robin66
I just came across this thread myself. This is a different platform and I’m still learning. But in life, we are all learning, which makes freesteading/homesteading an adventure. -
Welcome Dr. John. Glad to have another Northeastern member here.
