Ice cleats. I got a pair of Kahtoula nano ice spikes, came in very handy in big Texas freeze. Although I just stayed in til things melted, I still had to take out trash, so didn’t slip and fall in parking lot. Dont overlook challenges in mundane tasks- if slipped and fell without them, no one was coming to rescue too fast since roads bad and Texas not set up to clear roads that fast if at all. Plus if had to could drive in them bc the nano spikes were just nubs.

Something to potty in discretely while traveling. A small laundry detergent bottle, it’s opaque and if someone peers in your vehicle, it doesn’t look like a pee jug. Plus it won’t spill. Then you can just empty it out at next gas station. Keep the larger laundry detergent jugs too- keep an old Sun gallon+ laundry jug in vehicle as well for basic washing- has a handy spout on it.

Hi- I came across DSH searching for gardening videos. I’m in North Texas. I’d love an apparel item, thinking Tshirt. Thanks for all the work getting this site going, and thanks for this fun giveaway opportunity!

Hi! I realized I should have posted this here as most relevant- about gas/fuel on the homestead. Great idea. Would love to see Off Grid with Doug and Stacy here! https://youtu.be/F4MSNf_GwrUhttps://youtu.be/F4MSNf_GwrU

Tried to fig out how to post this as topic in States forum as well. Conversation about balkanization of United States. Found very relevant topic in relation to underlying reason most all of us here. I’m not seeing enough conversation on it considering what’s all happening. So..how to get this topic started here. FYI had trouble with trying to do a tag. https://youtu.be/Y-5t926gzaUhttps://youtu.be/Y-5t926gzaU

Tater Tot Hotdish is very much a Minnesota thing! It’s simple. Brown about a pound of ground beef with chopped onion, salt and pepper, add a can or 2 of cream of mushroom soup, can of corn, can green beans, ( or use frozen bag mixed veggies) and mix it up. Spread in pan and top it with package of tater tots, sprinkle cheddar cheese on it and bake. That’s the most basic- the one I grew up eating pretty often- always loved it as a kid.

I grew up in Great Lakes area. Goulash was pretty much the American macaroni, tomato, and ground beef dish. Maybe if you’re in a neighborhood with Hungarian roots, probably think of it as stew. The hot casserole type dishes popular up north ( need a “Tater Tot Hotdish” talk now.) Oddly, here in Texas, hardly anyone’s heard of it much less tried it. It’s pretty similar to Chili Mac honestly, just not spicey.

So grateful for this new platform! Yea FB and the likes have all pretty much become dumpster fires. Think people are scared to leave FB ( I told friends leaving and exchanged updated contact info before removing contacts.) Guess what- out of sight out of mind, hardly anyone spoke to me outside of that platform! They weren’t upset, just so used to that method of communication in my opinion- they just couldn’t ” old school it” even a little. It was disheartening but an eye opener. I felt the communication there devolved to just reposting videos, ” thoughts for the day”, and other useless stuff like vain smoochie-face cross-eyed selfies, nothing meaningful. And feeding that platform all your family photos with everything you’re doing thats so remarkable. Not sure if others had similar experience with people ” losing touch” with them when exiting that platform. Thinking before the whole social media craze, where most things were blog sites where people had actual conversations and could read- not everything was a video. I do love the videos of course! But just sayin. Anyhoo, here I am. I really hope all the homesteaders will make it over here, especially all the ones that do homesteading conferences too!
