Good question 🤔. We stopped going to tractor supply after they came out to say they supported drag queen proformances for children. We now shop at a different farm store and have been pleased with them. Much better prices and more selection on some items.

If it truly was a tooth problem, pulling isn’t the only option. Sometimes the problem tooth can be filed down.

Kunekunes are very nice pigs to deal with. They are easy on the ground and easy to handle. Kids get in with ours all the time. They won’t have much of a feed cost if you some good pasture to move them around often. They prefer pasture, if left in one small place too long they will pick it clean. Whatever breed you decide, I strongly suggest getting more than one. There is no way to determine litter size, a gilt could have 3 or 4 piglets her first time but could easily get up to 8 or 10 the next time. But you can sell piglets when they are weaned at 8 weeks. So you don’t have to keep a large litter for long. Here in Oklahoma you can buy/sell unregistered kunekunes for anywhere from 200-400 give or take.

We got down to 8 here in Oklahoma. With an awful windchill of -8. We all survived the night. This morning all the animals were up and ready for feed! Thankful we still have water and power. Hoping the worse is over now. Merry Christmas Danny and Wanda!

I don’t think it would suppress the grass growth. Ashes are good to put on gardens and around trees etc

We keep things pretty simple. For the actual Christmas day, we do not travel. We only see family that is here with us. Others have to seen the week before or after. We do not decoration the whole house haha. But in the main area we put up a tree and a few little thing here and there. Gifts stay pretty basic – something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.

I would assume at 300lbs they are much older. (Or very much over fed) But I would not breed your gilt until she is atleast 12-14 months old.

Thanks for sharing. I worry that many farmers may not be aware of this upcoming change.
