Love my 2000 silverado. Paid cash for it and it is my driver. My wife has the car. The truck is older and needs some cosmetic work. But I’m not worried about that. I had someone ragging me about my junkie truck. My response was how much is your car payment. He stated $450 a month. I laughed and stated it’s just like my truck, it’s gets you from a to b and back. Besides, I’m putting that money in the bank. He walked away mad. Not my fault he wanted to give his money away.

Picked up 8 deck blocks for a tool shed on the land. Need 8 more. They will be the foundation. I found out that I can build up to a 12×12 structure with out a permit.. Also picked up 20 ft of pipe for a shallow well on the land we are starting to clear. Will be getting some fencing for blackberries and grapes on the perimeter. And I fixed the lawn mower. Not much for the weekend but it’s a start.

I meant to say a thanks to those that gave the blackberry and grape vine fencing ideas. Can’t remember who you are but you know. I think one was Bobby, for the blackberry idea.

Mom raised five of us by herself and for as long as I can remember we had a garden.. No matter how small it was we.always had something. And even when times got tough we had food.. My problem was I like a lot of folks fell into the just go and buy it mindset. Now in my older age I am dusting off the cobwebs of my mind and beginning to clear some of our 7 acres to reclaim my freedom. AND, yes I can defend my food, I am the biggest of the five. Thanks for the site, I have been brought memories and learned some new things already.

Ok so, we have been discussing this topic, let’s see if it will work. I know of someone (I’m not giving names) that has lost a home in a fire. The place she current lives in (n the NC mountains) is not a save place. Does someone have or know of a place she could rent and restart her gardening. She does have somethings to offer but that would be between you and her. Just trying to see if there is anywhere out there that could help her. Details would be via personal messages between you and her. She is on this page and group. So she will see your answers.

That is a tough one. Trying to get my kids interested is rough. But as soon as I started sharing some food they are ready to eat. Finally got them to understand how much better home grown verses the store is. My oldest daughter grew some tomatoes and peppers this year, after complaining she could not. She now wants to try a small plot next year. It made me mad because her’s turned out better than mine. And yet I smile because at least she is willing to try now. Now to get my other two on board.

Me, too. I would.rather have one that is a pre-electronics myself. But until then I’ll drive my 310,000 mile one, until, as mom would.say, the doors fall.off. it too has a newer engine and transmission 90,000 or so.

You are welcome, hope it works out foe you. Just remember to have some ‘security’ there when meeting with people. They are crazy now and will get worse in the future. God bless.

If you don’t want to give out your address, and I don’t blame you, could you find another site to do business? This might be the farmer’s market, another small building / lot you could purchase or maybe a small corner of you current lot with a small building on it. ‘Country store’ style. If it’s a larger item or animal, then you may have to give out the home address. Just some thoughts.

That’s may be true. And my wife was in awe of the tractors in the sweet potato fields.

She is in the Franklin area. That’s south of Asheville. But if some of your friends could help it would be great. She is looking to rent a place that could have a garden but since she is elderly she can not afford a lot for rent. Especially now that she is recovering from the tragedy.

  • It’s all a mindset. We in America have a take attitude and not a give and take. I’m guilty of this myself and was convicted when wrote this story out.. Sometimes our biggest gains are when we see others from their perspective. But that’s what this site is all about. Helping others while.helpimg ourselves.

Louisiana is a beautiful state. My sister used to live in Deridder (not sure of spelling)and I was able to visit her a few times while driving from Az to NC and back. I loved the whole state. That’s part of the beauty of the world, everyplace has its own types of beauty if you look for it.

  • Korea is one place where haggling is big. And yes it can drive you crazy if you let it. Continuing after you agreed was his way of saying you are still paying too much. Like I said sometimes it is best to walk away. I did this in Korea and then found out that if I went back and was the first customer, I would get a batter deal. So, I did just that, they thought if they did not sell to the first customer it was going to be a bad day. The US is basically the only place that you walk in and say that’s the price and I’m going to pay it. As to.what to bring. What is your skill? Do you grow things? Then bring your produce. Do you make things? Then bring your products. Do youbhave a skill (teacher, electrician, plumber) Then offer those. Someone out there needs or wants what you have to offer. Then put a price on that and set a I will settle for this if they can’t pay what you want. If an elderly couple can’t afford to pay cash to have a plumber come in to change a faucet and you could do it for a bushel of corn. Offer it up. Both then would walk away happy. A true life story, my wife’s grandfather was a carpenter and once built a porch for someone in exchange for a small building, the people did not want, that my wife used as a playhouse. Could he have just built the playhouse, yes. But he knew someone needed their porch redone but could not afford it. So, this way he help them while allowing them the blessing of “paying” for it. That’s what true barting is about. Helping others that can’t afford it but to save face from begging.
