I should have mentioned this was aimed at people who live paycheck to paycheck like I do.

Alright I got the outer sheet metal finished and I’m actually pretty happy with the way it came out. I think all that’s left is making the pony firebox and chimney to get the stove part going. Waiting on some 3/4 inch copper pipe caps to make 2 more of the lifters for the electronics plate. Once I get them made and tested then I’ll start assembling the electronics. I want to be sure the plate rises and falls at the right temperatures before I load it with $$$ electronics.

Swan use to sell these great pink 3/4 inch 100 foot construction grade hoses. I had several last over 30 years. Sadly the last one died a hard death a few years ago when it got munched by the bush hog!

They looked much like the one posted above.

This time of year we make way more power than we consume so that got me thinking. Then I got a hair brained idea and unhooked 4 solar panels from the house and hooked them to the heating element in the stove about 3:30 and by about 5 even with the terrible sun angle at that time of day the temperature of the stove had risen about 4 or 5 degrees. I was pleasantly surprised considering it’s a 1,500 watt heating element and only has 1,200 watts going to it, plus it’s heating 1,300lbs give or take a pound or two. Once that was up and going I started putting insulation around the stove and hunting up pieces of short roofing metal to wrap it with. Hopefully I can get more done tomorrow but the weather forecast doesn’t look great.

ETA: I will likely go back and tag another panel on that set to give the heating element full wattage and get the voltage a bit higher. It was only at 65 volts with the 4) 300 watt panels in series.

How small is small ponds? To me it sounds like they are spring fed and if so could be done up as a proper spring with possibly the best water you’ve ever had! Or the worst. lol Likely somewhere in between.

You will likely come out a lot better finding what you’re looking for if you get out of that small bracket size. You will probably find as we did that you can buy 10X as much unrestricted land for less money than going for such a small parcel. When we were looking for land 15-20 years ago it amazed me we bought 36 acres here for about 1/3 to 1/2 of what 5 to 10 acres would have been. I know it’s backwards but small parcels are way over priced! So try looking at larger places for less money.

It can be done easy enough just gotta dig a little deeper in the ole pocket. First you need to decide how many amps you’re going to need for everything you want on the system. Generally a single larger system is cheaper than a bunch of smaller systems. BUT that also depends on distance between things. Like here I need power at areas over a thousand feet apart. Still easy enough to accomplish with a single large system just not money wise in my case so I have two smaller systems. You have lots of options just do your homework. Far as I know there is no one source for knowledge like you’re asking about. Probably because the tech is changing so fast by the time something is written and printed it’s already out of date!

BTW I’ve lived off grid for the last 15 years………………………………………

I’m not exactly young myself, being a little past the half century mark. Plus as I mentioned we moved here 15 years ago things might not go the same these days.

Interesting info there. We’ve been here 15 years and still no address. Which other than getting deliveries I like. Flying under the radar suits me to a tee! My po box is on my license and all my other documentation including my CCW.

Me being me would go find the wettest spot and dig down until I had a nice little pool say three feet across and deep and I’d keep pumping the water out until I trace back where it’s coming from. The water should clear up as you pump it out or syphon it out if it’s a spring.

Depending on where you’re willing to move you can find say 20-50 acres for less than $2,000 an acre for raw land.
