Agree… Billy (Perma Pastures Farm) has some great root cuttings for sale.

There’s also the option of just buying the seeds from multiple seed companies.

My best machete was brought back to me from Haiti by a nurse that I sponsored on a mission trip. It even came with a custom made leather sheath. For hacking big stuff, I have a SOG which is pretty hefty. Neither gets much of a workout these days. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Greetings Everyone …

I’m just an old fart that’s been a student of survival and preparedness basically all my life. I was taught by Mentors because there were no computers. I learned the skills that people in the past based their existence on and not some regurgitated crap passed around online. So, you’ll have to pardon me if I show a little bias from time to time. ๐Ÿ™‚

I can identify with that. I probably have more seeds in my seed library than I’ll ever need. However, I’m always sharing with others so it dwindles down a tiny bit until my next seed purchase. With that said, it still seems to grow larger Heck, I even buy seeds for things I don’t even like so that perhaps I can bless someone else down the road. ๐Ÿ™‚

As to fuel … we all know that, to start, the smaller the better for combustion. Where I focus is then on which type of fire I’m building. If it’s for cooking, I won’t go above a certain size so that I can have faster coals to cook on. If for warmth, I’ll take it up to small logs that will take longer to burn. Perhaps even construct an automatic feed that will also serve as a reflector.

As to Lint … I never bother to carry any (or anything else). My Mentor’s would roll over in their graves. However, if I did ever feel the need, I’m usually wearing or carrying something like wool that a few scrapes with my knife edge would be all that is necessary to process some lint. So far, I’ve never had the need. Building fires was always a passion of mine and I always seemed to be the one designated by my friends to take care of it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you understand the science behind the lens as to how it’s made? Very interesting.

Personally, I like the Sawyer. I tend to order one or two when I place an Amazon order so that I can gift them to friends and family. Even if they’re not into preparedness. Who knows, it may just bless them in the future.

@Wendy … I have not personally dealt with SanTan but I have many RV friends who have bought from them and give them high marks.

    @Squashmania

Trust me on this … If you’re starving, you’ll eat anything that doesn’t eat you first. So, Hubby better get
prepared to bless you and the Lord that’s there food on the table if things keep going the way they are.

With that said … Please watch after your own health. It won’t help if you’re down for a while.

    God Bless …

I totally understand … My 18 year old spirit finds it difficult to accept that I just can’t do a lot of the same things anymore. ๐Ÿ™‚

You and Patsplace bring up another aspect of homesteading. While you’re being tasked with taking care of the homestead, you’re also still having to cook and clean for two people. Will say an extra prayer for those like y’all.

I thank you both for speaking up. I admit my original thoughts were for us single folks.

If I may put in my two cents worth ….
First, make a list of everything you would “absolutely need” to run off your solar system.
Customarily, there is information on each item’s tag in reference to it’s power usage. You may see Amps, you may see Watts. Don’t worry about it, just record the info. Conversion can be done after all the data is collected to let you know what size system you would need just to cover your basic needs. There’s actually sites online that will do all the conversions so you don’t have to worry about the math. Although, knowing how to convert is a plus.

Solar On A Dime …. I could make some recommendations on how to get started on the cheap once you know what size system you will need to start. Just remember, there’s no law that says you have to buy expensive Lithium batteries and the name brand solar panels. It’s also not a necessity to purchase everything new. You might also be surprised what you can obtain for free. So, in the meantime, keep your eyes and ears open.
