I know it depends on location, but how many seeds do you think you need of each type and what typs of plants are you punting in a seed vault? Are you making a seed vault? Buy or seed harvesting?

All that, buying, harvesting, and trading seeds with local minded people.

I store as much as i think for 2 years because 1 of those 2 years could have bad weather or certain crops wont grow well. Most seeds will last more than 1 year if store properly. Diversify as much as possible.

I bought these tobacco seeds in 2014 and just found them. Heres the plants growing this year.

Same here, save and buy seeds. I have a large seed bank and I buy as much heat and cold tolerant varieties I can find that will grow in zone 8a. As a prepper it’s never enough when we see what’s coming. Sweet potatoes and Irish/Idaho potatoes are more of a concern for me and I am saving many sweet potatoes that were just harvested to make my own slips in the spring.

I grew sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I’m in 8b Central Texas. Not sure how long they will store here. How do you store yours?

Ks zone 6b, my sweet potato plants look good and healthy. Can’t wait til they die down to see what lies below.

I am storing them in our food storage room(spare bedroom) in the house that we keep pretty cool until it cools A LOT more here then I have racks in a large garage and will move them there next month through the winter.

There’s a couple different methods depending on how many taters you got. Off Grid with Doug & Stacy, No-Till Growers and even Millenial Gardener (for small harvest) all have YT videos explaining. It’s easy. I used huge heat pads under containers in my supply trailer to keep them 85 degrees for two weeks, then moved them inside to a chilly room.

I can identify with that. I probably have more seeds in my seed library than I’ll ever need. However, I’m always sharing with others so it dwindles down a tiny bit until my next seed purchase. With that said, it still seems to grow larger Heck, I even buy seeds for things I don’t even like so that perhaps I can bless someone else down the road. 🙂

Well then you’re blessed sister. Lol. I’d love to feel like I have enough. Same deal on fertilizer… 🤠

I use gallon glass jars to store seed. I keep seed in the fridge unless I’m planting. Fluctuations in temp. And moisture are the enemy of seed. Keep seed rotated. Cowpea, Allium and parsnip seed are short lived. Most other seed will survive storage for 3-6 yr depending on the type of seed. Keeping seed for a decade or two in a “vault” is a misnomer. Seed must be planted and fresh seed saved and replanted. This is how germplasm storage facilities work.
