There is so much growing where I live but they are dosing it all with glyphosate to kill it. I wish I knew of a place where it has not been sprayed. I would gladly send it to you.

I think if you live way down south you can get away with spring planting but everyone I know plants in the fall and harvests in June. I am in 6b and this June was the first year I got real garlic bulbs. I planted them in late October last year in a raised bed. All I did was mix in compost and cover with mulch. We did put some lattice over the raised bed to keep the neighbor’s cat out.

It’s so much fun to see the green sprouts in spring. Good luck with your new crop

I would never have thought about dehydrating cabbage. If I ever perfect growing it I will do more than ferment for sure. Rice is another great thing to cook up and then dehydrate. It sounds kind of stupid but when you are in a hurry to make up a meal, you have instant rice on hand.

@NicoleSauce that is very cool. Even the grass fed beef farm is sold out. More people grabbing them bones. Few more farms to check on.

I wasn’t real sure how much water to add so I just filled the stockpot and stuffed that baby in there. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount.

Quite honestly I despise turkey soup so thought I would not be a fan of the broth BUT I have used it in place of chicken broth and cannot tell the difference. Now if I could only get my hands on some beef bones.

Grabbed the carcus from my daughter who thinks I am crazy. The process was done in piece meal but 7 beautiful quarts of broth on the shelf.

Yes me too. Last fall I had to rearrange the freezer just to fit all the grains and sugar for a few days. I put the stuff I use regularly into small mylar bags and then into 5 gallon buckets. Once the bags get opened they come upstairs into half gallon mason jars under the counter.

I’ve tried with my kids to go in on beef or pork but they get all their meat delivered by a food service so they are not interested. Friends don’t buy in bulk because they like to live with their heads in the sand. 🤷‍♀️ the last 4 years have not taught them anything.

I watch my friends and family go grocery shopping weekly and spend hundreds of dollars each trip. We are making a trip on Friday to the big bulk buying store and will spend a couple of hundred, but it will stock us up for a while. I also order flour, wheat berries, oats, and other things from Azure about 2x a year. I will be buying meat directly from the farm this year too.

Salt is a good thing to have on hand. Every time I have looked to buy in bulk it is not available.

Nice. You would think that they have asked the price before putting in the order. Good fortune for you though.

I soak the beans over night, drain, rinse and then cook them for 30 minutes. I then cook the chicken for about 10 minutes add everything else, cook for another 5 and add the drained beans and broth. I bring everything to a boil and let it simmer for another 5 minutes. Get it all into the jars and pressure can for 75 minutes for pints and 90 for quarts. Seems like a long process but you can get the chicken cooking and stuff during the 30 minutes that the beans are cooking.
