Ended up with an unplanned mix that seems to be working well. I planted the sunflower seeds last year before the drought. They somehow managed to survive the Christmas day freeze and come up in my bed of cylindra beets.

I agree, my September bed of carrots had to get pulled early because of unusual early freeze, in February up poped carrots that didn’t germinate in September, from that bed I canned up 19 pints and have 3 dehydrators going 😁 my second bed should be ready at end of may, i stagger my harvest so 1 if something happens to one then I might have the other and also so not over whelming myself

From my experience volunteer plants do far far better than my transplants. I am at the point that I move my garden to how the volunteer start, and I toss seeds all over in hopes that they will create more volunteers the next year, when I find an area a plant does well I reseed that area. Thanks for sharing.
