Critters in the compast pile

Was turning my compost pile and these critters appeared; not sure what they are. Reminds me of cutworms only much bigger. For the moment we put them in a can. They dig in the dirt like worms. Are they detrimental? Should I dispatch them and put in garbage or squash them then let them rot in compost? This is the first year we have seen them.

Those are grub worms and yes they eat plant roots.

They turn into those green beetles that fly around

If you have chickens, give it to them. They will love you for it.

Thanks, never see then before. My neighbor has chickens. So looks like they will have a snack this afternoon.
