Grind up egg shells or use cornmeal for grit. Their gizzards need grit. I put a little fine sand in my bin, as well

Just watch those corrugated lids. To me, every hill is a tunnel entrance for worm loving vermin. You may, or may not have a problem, but I would keep an eye on it.

      Yeah, that is a concern.

Got my worms from Green Gregs worm farm. I have three Rubbermaid tubs going and just harvested about 4 gallons of worm castings. I live in a subdivision, so I’m slightly limited but undaunted. My first tub was started with Walmart worms. Greg’s worms were huge and healthy! For what I paid for Walmart worms, I could have gotten so many more from Greg Allison (he’s a rocket scientist, btw). Loving my viniculture!

So how long did it take you to get to the point you could start harvesting the casting?

We have had a cold snap here with a couple of nights where the temps got down near freezing. I checked the worms yesterday. They were balled up deep in the middle of the bedding. They looked a little worse for wear, but they were moving and active. With many people saying they hadn’t had luck with their vermiculture efforts I was concerned. The outlook is promising, though.
