Thanks AiNt-Rite! We love our GSD’s too! They’re a couple of spoiled brats, but they are by far some of the best 4 legged friends we’ve ever had! I hope you guys find a Duke and love your idea!

Deb, reading your reply gave me an idea. We all have projects we need to complete and some of us don’t have the stature or stamina as others. Perhaps we as a community should consider “an old fashioned barn raising” so to speak. We are in dire need of helping each other help ourselves from the coming “moronaclypse”.
-
Our group does that. In fact, we’ve got two firewood cutting days schedule at two different locations within the next 30 days. Part of our circle came to our place in June to help throw up a chicken coop on our property. Sometime, I’ll have to detail the firewood workday we did at our old place a couple of years ago. It’s a great way to help each other and fellowship..

That’s awesome Grumpy! I’m so excited to be a part of this group and hopefully be a help to someone. My only handicap is I have several young children in tow and it sometimes slows me down. I’m an introvert by nature but I’m trying to reach out more because we can’t do this alone. Thanks to everyone! This gives me hope for those of us on the same page.

I am trying like heck to get a homestead rotation group together like Tag has. Community would be wonderful!

Finished putting in the new garden bed with gate and drip irrigation system. Then I was able to plant the fall garden.

Even though it’s dark where we store them, we painted them black to keep them from light

Wow, that’s a chicken coop! How many chickens are you planning on?
-
Good Morning Sandra! We’d eventually like to keep around 50 birds or so, but you know how these things go… We may end up with more, if my beautiful bride keeps making pets out of them!

Picked up 8 deck blocks for a tool shed on the land. Need 8 more. They will be the foundation. I found out that I can build up to a 12×12 structure with out a permit.. Also picked up 20 ft of pipe for a shallow well on the land we are starting to clear. Will be getting some fencing for blackberries and grapes on the perimeter. And I fixed the lawn mower. Not much for the weekend but it’s a start.

I meant to say a thanks to those that gave the blackberry and grape vine fencing ideas. Can’t remember who you are but you know. I think one was Bobby, for the blackberry idea.

Good Morning Jeannie! That’s awesome! I love homemade tomato juice and spaghetti sauce!

Moved our pigs into a training pen for electric fence. Apparently pigs can fit through a hole half their size. The first one got out and we think still running around. Fixed the only place he may have escaped from, and the second one is still in the pen hiding from what ever bit him. Hopefully the escapee will get lonely and come back.
You only learn from your mistakes.

On a more positive note.

Wow! Now that’s an awesome project ML! Remember, it was only a mistake if you didn’t learn anything from it!

Not much done this weekend. Was suppose to have thunderstorms all.weekend so nothing was really planned. It did rain, but only after I started to cut the grass. I did pick up some more deck blocks for the building. Needed 16 instead of the original 8. Forgot I need to support the middle. Good thing my wife figured this out before I started the build. Next to get those in and then building. I also got two whole house filters to make a portable water filtration system. Just need a small 12 volt transfer pump to get that finished. Similar to the Portawell system for half the price. And if unable to get filters, I can still use the containers to place a natural filter in(sand, charcoal, etc.) . While picking those up, found some gloves on clearance. Picked up four pairs. Two for me and two for my wife. Always like a good deal. Not bad for a rainy weekend. Also got some rest, which is always needed.

Thanks for chiming in CarolinaCarefree! I’d love to see pics of your water filtration system progress!

I’ve finally hit the 70% progress mark for my rabbit colony house this weekend. Hoping that I will be able to wrap it up by the end of next weekend. As soon as I am done, we’ll go pick up our buck that a friend is housing for us and let him get acquainted. Once I’ve gotten my daily routine down with him, I will then get our doe[s] and let the fun begin.
-
That’s awesome Ken! We’ve not been brave enough to attempt rabbits yet. Maybe one of the next things for us to try on the homestead!
