Our Jersey has mastitis which we treated with ToDAY. I know we are to discard the milk for 4 days due to the antibiotic, but does anyone know if I can feed it to my laying hens? Any articles appreciated.

For future reference, what natural remedies have you tried and been successful with? I read a promising article in Grit that recommended a concoction of apple cider vinegar, honey, turmeric, and garlic. Hope to catch earlier and treat naturally next time…

What goes in comes out. If chickens eat it some portion will be in eggs or meat

That’s how I feel also, but we seem to be divided in the household on this matter. 😉 Looking for an article or something I can reference to share. It’s heartbreaking to dump milk…

If you check out Off Grid with Doug and Stacey they talk about using a product called Redmond Clay. They make a poultice and apply it to the infected teet. As it dries it pulls out. The infection. I have no first hand knowledge of this, but they try to do everything organically, like nature

Mastitis is serious. If the infection does not get under control it can kill your cow. I will suggest stay on the antibiotics and throw away the milk for four days like the vet said. Do not feed it to other animals or chickens.

Have you ever tried using homeopathy? Here is a link to an instructional site that I have been using for a decade +. FYI, homeopathy works on humans, animals and plants. Remedies are generally available on line (amazon.com) as well as directly from the remedy manufacturers. Homeopathy is a necessity to know in today’s environment, generally safe to use (I do not use pharmaceutical products), suitable for use with infants/elderly. Instructions and further education available from this link.

Look for search bar in upper right of page… put in mastitis.
