Does anyone have any amazing recipes for these type things? As Wanda and Danny both mentioned on Saturday nights live these things are great to have but when they run out. I was thinking it would be a lot cheaper and then of course having the knowledge of how to replace once you run out. I have psoriasis so I deal with this in the winter so bad dry scalp, lips, hands and heels. I use the working hands and the foot one as well as the chapstick and it is amazing but I know there is crap in all of them and it isnt something I can just make.

Rosemary Gladstar has some great recipes. I have a print out somewhere in my files. You can find her in YouTube.

    Try this website: https://www.schneiderpeeps.com/uses-for-beeswax-candles-salves/

Bees wax is a healthy alternative. “Beeswax has antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties (if it’s not heated above 250°F during processing), it’s food safe and smells wonderful. It can be used in toiletries, and in home and garden projects”

A few ideas for you to play with:

    1. I’ve heard of using coconut oil in place of lotion. It doesn’t work well for me but a guy I used to work with swears by it.

    2. My favorite recipe I’ve found for a body butter was 90% Shea butter and 10% coconut oil. Measure out the Shea butter and coconut oil into the same bowl. Gently soften the mixture until you can whip it with a mixer and whip the body butter until you have no lumps in it.

    3. I’ll second the suggestion to use beeswax. It’s great for making lip balm. You mix the beeswax with a good nourishing oil and gently melt it. Once it’s melted you can pour it into your tins or lip balm tubes.

    4. There’s lots of good resources out there, brambleberry and nature’s garden are just a couple of sites that have lots of recipes to try. Play around and find out what works for you.

Thank you! Coconut oil doesnt work well for me either as a moisturizer, not sure why it just doesnt. I will definetly check into getting some beeswax pellets. We hope to be up and running with bees in a few years unless something happens before.

I do a lot of shooting muzzleloaders. there are thousands of recipes for bullet lube that use just about any kind of oil you find in the kitchen, garage or machine shop. (crisco to furniture polish to axel grease) and beeswax. the ratios of oils to wax could be adjusted for anything from a cream to a chapstick consistency.

So i imagine the same could be done for creams or balms, just find something non toxic for lips, and melt small quantities of beeswax in slowly. Aloe, some essential oils, things good for skin. Mix in an oil for moisturizer anything from castor oil to cooking oil. Masons and tile workers use olive oil as a hand moisturizer

This is the recipe I use, I add a little lanolin to it. I use it for both lipbalm and lotion bars.

Marigolds work for me. I have no recipe but since they grow so easily just soak them in what ever oil or grease i have (olive oil, lard, chicken fat) and use when needed. I too have very dry hands & lips that crack especially during harvest processing & our long hard winters and the marigold works nicely for me. Used after a major surgery on my incisions and it was very soothing. I’ve even used it on areas of pain that eases the inflammation nicely.
I would look into what herbs/foods/flowers you grow or have handy and take it from there. For instance sage, red clover, tulsi, calendula & marigolds, and dandelion provide wonderful skin healing properties that can bring you great relief from cracked skin.
Keep us posted on what you come up with!

Thank you! I just kind of mixed stuff together lol. I used shea butter, beeswax, plantain/calendula infused argan oil. I love the feel of the argan oil so silky!
