Peach Seeds

I may have asked a question in the wrong area.. I’m just now getting to know how to move around here. Well anyway I’ll repeat my question. My daughter works at a truck stop and for whatever reason the truckers will drop off their load at their dumpster (the produce isn’t spoiled in any way) so she brought home 2 boxes of white peaches. They where so sweet that I would like to try and grow peach trees from the seed. 2 of the seeds came apart and I was wondering if the seed inside of the pit is what I grow, do I crack open the others or just plant the whole pits? How long before they sprout? I want to plant them in some potting soil that I have. Thank you for your help and friendship.

I wrote this article on starting them a few years back:

You can split them open or plant the entire pit, but stratification helps a lot.

How do you know if a peach tree is worth saving or not?

If the parent tree has good peaches, the children likely will as well. I started dozens of trees from one named variety – all of the resulting peaches from the next generation which I got to try were good. Size and color varied a bit, but they were all nice.
