4 year old wood chips that I ran thru a 1 inch screen has worked very well for me for getting plants started. After I get a plant to this stage I take it out to harden off to the sun under my mist irrigation, then I move them to my hydroponic or aquaponic, or sub irrigated planter systems. Not having to buy potting soil is awesome, I visit a friend and we work together to screen the chips in my trommel, then split up the results. That yields me about 80 $ worth of potting soil.

Potting soil here is 25$ a bag, I decided I could do better making my own, and it has worked out.

That is such a wonderful feeling to be able to create something that is pure, just the way God intended it to be. Great job!!

Thanks, but I think the credit belong’s to God’s earthworms and bacteria, and fungus which do the magic of converting a tree to wonderful soil… But great to find another way out of the system.

That’s awesome! Make my own compost and just got a chipper. Right now making paths in the gardens but excess goes in compost.

A British gardener uses wood chips to line his pathways. Then, after they have aged enough to not steal nitrogen, he uses them as mulch for his gardens.

Yeah, I first heard about wood chips via Jean Pain, then heard about Back to Eden method….
