Mechanical diesel engines may be a better option as they are more fuel versatile. Plus you have gobs more torque for working.

Yeah, I was impressed with Lister engines when I was looking at backup gens. As you say diesel is proven tech that works…. Getting replacement parts may be a problem but…

Those old school diesels are nearly indestructible therefore needing few if any parts for many years. Even the new old tech stuff lasts pretty well. IE My 2006 Jinma tractor all 1960’s tech diesel 4×4 made in china based on old designs. It’s only cost me around $1200 in repairs since I bought it in 06.

There was a movie that used a metal garage as a farraday cage basically. Would that work? What about doors and windows? The one thing that worries me is if you have the only working vehicle around, it is noticeable and the possibility of getting attacked for it is a good one.

Yeah I started thinking about an EMP…. If there was an EMP how would I know? I mean the radio stations and most of electronics would be down I could not turn on a radio to check…

I decided to put a couple of old phones in my Faraday cage just to have for testing… You have to have a phone that did not go thru the EMP to know if anything works….

Other factors I thought about was if they Nuke us with a high orbit emp, then there is nothing stopping them from doing it again in 2 weeks just to desroy every thing we brought out from being protected. So yes building a faraday room may be the way to go, and…. don’t let people see the light thru the windows as that will be a magnet of “he has power” lets go visit him.
