Audio Books
Posted by BLT_Ranch on September 10, 2022 at 4:14 pmSomething I discovered about myself, Is the way I retain information as odd as it sounds hearing it in story form is far better for me. (With a good narrator) I am a huge fan of audio books on post shtf scenarios, I have an earbud in more then I care to admit listening to stories many of them I have herd countless times. Of course if its audio it’s in print as well.. However any good book with post shtf obviously includes allot of info on off grid, prepping, survival, homesteading, etc. Not the 1, 2, 3, first do x, then do y type books, but the story telling novels that discuss what they are doing and why like one friend explaining to another how to make something. Is it possible to add a discussion tab on education that could include something like this? I’m sure there are allot of others like me out there, some may not even realize it because they have never tried it, If nothing else it’s entertaining. I’m always looking for a good audio book as I have hundreds of them.

I kinda do the same thing, but with youtube videos. Unless it’s a have to watch, I just listen as I’m doing gardening or caring for my animals, housework… Having it in story form would be fun. One natural healer I listen to adds stories of her family and what lead her to understand her healing capabilities more. I’ve recently found an herbalist that does the same thing. So try just listening to some preppers, I bet you will hear more stories than you expected to.

That’s what the stories are based around that I like, post shtf from a prepper perspective, there arenso many things that just would never cross your mind other wise. Interesting perspectives from a story view point. That’s what the stories are based around that I like, post shtf from a prepper perspective, there arenso many things that just would never cross your mind other wise. I like them too BLT. I’m in the Scott Medbury books now. Agree with the ear bud.. lol. Love hate thing. I find my chores a bit more enjoyable with audio books, and even sometimes have it on while I work if the mind allows. ❣️

I don’t know that I have any Scott m’s books.
I have a unique taste in books though, maybe a bit of a weirdo…lol. The best way I can describe it is, I like books written by Preppers that write, not writers that prep. It may seem like the same, but to me it’s not. The narrator must be able to do good voice inflection,, if its monotone I can’t listen to it,, just bothers me to have a 5 year girl and a 40 year old man sound the same,, makes it hard for my imagination to follow.. I’m much more so into the scenarios, and tips and tricks type things that are picked up along the way as apposed to plot story etc.
Do you have anything you might reccomend for this type of description?I don’t know that I have any Scott m’s books.

Tried and true favorite…even for adults! The Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
-
I would listen to the audio books however my 6 year old has been hooked on that series for years, she watches it allot. When I was younger I did however read the little house series.

a great audio book you can find on youtube, look up one second after. GREAT audio book.
-
One second after was not the first book on the subject by any means but definately a memorable one, its now the first In a series, I completed the series, overall it was an excellent story, my only gripe on the series was as I was listening to it, (-all 3 times) I never had an inclination to take any notes the overall message was great, a hard lesson to learn about his daughter,, and gave a great overview of what was possible etc however like I said didn’t take notes from it. Obviously it’s not an educational on a survival level type book. For me personally that’s the type of stuff I look for.

The audio books by The Angry American- his Going Home series is really good. The audio books are read by Duke Fontaine. Duke brings all the characters to life. The books take place in Florida and the main character is about 150 miles away from home when an EMP hits and he has to walk home. I am on A American latest book Engineering Home. I listen to them while I commute to and from work. Lots of interesting info and food for thought in a SHTF situation.

This is tied for 1st place on my favorite series list. I think Duke edges this one into first place. I actually have A Americans cell we have texted and talked many times about him doing a class on some land I have near Leadville, CO. Neat guy.. Going home is my go to when I can’t find anything else, I have herd this series more times then I care to admit. 😉 absolutely agree amazing series through book 11.
Before you ask…the tie book series is Borrow world by Franklin Horton, narrated by Kevin pierce. Chapter one of book 1 is one of the best chapters of any book I have ever read. It leaves you feeling like how is this information being written and published! This should be top sceret! The scenario that happens is scary how simple, how easy, and the fact that it could be being put together right now to be executed tomorrow and no one would have a clue untill it happened, no fancy nuts, just straight out of pre WW1 technology.
Best stand alone book imo is Odd Billy Todd, a couple of scenarios in that book are very unique to that book, that make you really stop and think.

We ve read the series too! Hope a tv or movie deal makes to the screen! So much to learn about prepping or just survival in shtf situation

Oh my so many good ones. Glen Beck surprised me with the Overton window and the eye of mulock. Agenda 21 wasn’t bad. Lucefers Hammer started slow but turned out great. The patriot series by James Rawles was worth the listen. 299 day series was decent. Lights out was good. Enemy’s foreign and domestic was good too. Don’t forget my favorite Altas Shrugged

I have the bible in multiple versions on my phone, and I keep thru the bible from Chuck Smith who systematically goes from Gen to Rev. Also have J. Vernon McGee. It is great when I want to focus on a book of the bible to hear a couple different perspectives on the book.
-
I also love Jon Courson and Chuck Missler along with those you mention. I love many Calvary Chapel teachers, but not all. I have them all saved on my server and can play any of them any where as long as the internet is available.
-
Yes, Calvary Chapel has gone astray with some of the teachers, but love Chuck’s material. Chuck Missler has some wild ideas, I know some of is material can be had on Blue letter bible.

I loved some of his insights about time and Genesis, but like all teachers I take the meat and spit out the bone 😉
