• Welcome to Freesteading! We've just rebuilt the site and it's only a few days old. Right now it's quiet, but it will grow quickly with your help! Please feel free to post new topics and reply to existing threads. Every post helps build momentum. Looking forward to seeing what you share!

What is an Article Thread?

An Article Thread is a special thread type in our Freestading Community designed for long-form content, guides, news, or in-depth posts where the focus is on the main article rather than casual discussion.

How to Create an Article Thread

  1. Click “Create Thread”.
  2. Select Article as the thread type.
  3. Write a full, detailed article in the first post (you get much more space and better formatting).
  4. Add images, headings, lists, etc.
  5. Publish the thread.

Your article will stay at the top on every page, while replies appear as comments below. Great for guides, reviews, or long posts.

What it allows:

  • The first post is treated as the main article.
  • It gets special treatment with:
    • Much higher character limits (for very long content).
    • Increased limits on embedded media, images, and attachments.
    • Distinct, clean styling that makes it look more like a proper article (less like a regular forum post).
  • All replies are shown as comments on the article.
  • The full article stays visible at the top of every page. Once comments go to multiple pages, it automatically collapses into a compact/summarized version (easily expandable).

Key features:

  • Perfect for publishing rich, high-quality content while still allowing community feedback.
  • Better for SEO as articles are marked up differently for search engines.
  • Can be used in dedicated Article forums (with masonry-style layouts) or mixed with other thread types.

When creating a new thread in a supported forum, you’ll see an “Article” option alongside Discussion, Poll, Question, etc. Once posted, the thread clearly separates the prominent article from the comment section below.

Ideal for: Guides, tutorials, reviews, news posts, blogs, knowledge bases, or any content where you want the main piece to stand out professionally.

If you have questions please feel free to ask below by replying.
