A Discussion Thread is the standard and most common thread type in our Freesteading Community. It’s the classic forum conversation format used for general chatting, sharing ideas, and community interaction.

This is the most common and flexible thread type on Freesteading Community — perfect for general conversations, questions, sharing experiences, and chatting with the community.
When creating a new thread, “Discussion” is usually the default option (alongside Poll, Question, Article, etc.). Once posted, it looks and behaves like a traditional forum thread.
Ideal for: General discussions, off-topic chat, sharing experiences, brainstorming, casual conversations, news sharing, or any topic where open back-and-forth discussion is the goal.
This is the “regular thread” most people will use every day on freesteading.com.

How to Create a Discussion Thread
- Go to the forum section where you want your thread to appear (for example: General Chat, Introductions, Off-Topic, etc.).
- Click the big blue button at the top right that says “Create Thread” or “Post Thread”.
- At the top of the creation page, select Discussion as the thread type (this is usually the default option).
- Write a clear and descriptive Thread Title.Good example: “What are your favorite tools for off-grid living?”Bad example: “Hey guys”
- Type your message in the large text editor box. You can format it using bold, italics, lists, emojis, etc.
- (Optional) Add images, attachments, or embed videos if needed.
- (Optional) Add relevant tags if the forum uses them.
- Click the “Create Thread” or “Post” button at the bottom.

- Supports images, attachments, quotes, reactions, and all standard XenForo posting tools.
- Can be bumped, liked, and followed like any normal thread.
- No limits on length or number of replies.
